countertop dilemma

We are moving along in our kitchen renovation. I’m at the point where I’m trying to choose countertops. I looked at Cambria Summerhill today and it’s really pretty. It’s outside my comfort zone of being pretty conservative, but I’m trying to get outside that zone more. Here’s a link to the design board. Everything on the board except the countertops is pretty much decided on. I’d like thoughts on these countertops with the gold tone hardware. Has anyone done it? Do you think it will work?

Personally I don't care for summerhill with the brushed brass choices you made didi you look at Beaumont or Brittanica Gold

I find reading your board a little challenging but I think you have beautiful selections and I think they will all go together nicely. I like it all!

Salonva, can you explain why it is challenging? Is there a way to make it read more clearly? Thanks for your comment. I’m always second guessing every choice!

After I wrote that, I clicked on the link in your post and that took me to your ideabook with clearer photos- so it's all good.

I am curious to see what others will weigh in on the selections. I am not so familiar with the various countertops mentioned,. I am just going by the photos you provided.

Why do you think the counter doesn't go well with the gold ? Is it more gray silver? ( I still think they all work nicely but I hope others chime in as well.).

Salonva - it has some gold tones but also a lot of silver in it. The display in the store was beautiful and it definitely had some blue in it that would come out with the navy island. But yes, my hesitation is the silver tones and the gold choices I have made. I also don’t want it to be too busy looking, but I also always go on the safe side so I’d like to make a bold choice. Does all that make sense? I looked at Britannica too but it’s a bit more expensive than the Summerhill and definitely the more conservative choice.

I think your choices are lovely, but I DON'T like the countertops. IMO, they look like a busy granite, so if that's the look you want, I'd just get granite. To be candid, I personally am not a fan of granite, as I don't like a lot of movement and generally just don't like the looks of it. However, this particular quartz looks to me like fake granite. I think you can find a better choice for your kitchen.

Design Girl - that’s why I don’t like granite either. I don’t like busyness. But when I saw these countertops in the store they were kind of stunning in a way granite isn’t. I think that’s why I’m so torn, because they aren’t my natural first choice but I was drawn to them in the store. I’m definitely going to shop some more, but I’m not counting them out yet.

I don't think they're that busy. but they sure do look different w/darker cabinets

I do agree about the gold though. this looks much better w/the nickel elements.

the Brittanica gold or the Windermere would look great w/gold/brass

Looking at the photos that Beth has posted I have to say that the veining in this quartz looks very very fake to me. I also don’t think it pairs well with the gold. I’d select another quartz. Although I prefer marble to quartz have you looked at LG Viatera Minuet. My neighbor has it and it looks lovely.

I have to agree. it has a rather 'fake' look to it. It just depends on the overall look your want. In the right kitchen, I think it's nice.

But I do believe there are better choices. Have you looked at Quartzite? Taj Majal would be perfect w/your gold and your flooring. shouldn't be any more expensive either.

Taj is also a true quartzite and won't etch or stain.

Our CAMBRIA Quartz Countertops are now 10 years old and the section in front of the window is fading (turning whitish). BEWARE!!!

UPDATE: CAMBRIA does NOT honor their Warranty if it is UV (that is Light) damage.

Pretty sure Cambria doesn't warranty against UV damage. And if you're just seeing something after a decade...well, hell, I'll be thrilled to have no effects for that long.
