Wolf speed oven

Hi, I am looking into the Wolf speed oven. We initially were considering the Bosch speed oven but the rack does not glide out, which presents a concern. I like the Wolf speed oven (with two racks that glide out), but it is new. Has anyone been using the Wolf speed oven and can comment on how it performs?

I have not used it, but I would not be worried to get a Wolf.

GE is the originator of the speed oven concept and there still are none that truly touch its capabilities.

Bosch and Siemens made great speed ovens as early as the mid 1980s. My parents finally replaced theirs after about 30 years, when the buttons started being hard to operate. The speed oven function was still working great.

The first Advantium released until more than 10 years later. They might have better marketing in the US, but they're neither the first nor the best.

A convection microwave is not the same as a speed oven, even though they may be marketed similarly and do similar things. The halogen element in the GE does direct browning, not indirect convective browning. Even a standard broiling element in one of those won’t offer the same results.

So, in your book neither Wolf, Miele or Bosch make speed ovens, as they have traditional broiler elements? I'm sure that's news to these companies.

Halogen elements have been around long before the Advantium. They always stayed a niche product and didn't catch on widely.

My parent's old speed oven had upper/lower heat, a broiler, convection, and a microwave. It was a really great addition to their household.

Having said that, I still think that speed ovens have limited utility. The speed function is nice. But most of the time I use our Miele speed oven either as just a great microwave (so much better space utilization without the spinning plate) or another fully featured wall oven. It actually is a pretty good oven in it's own right.

As far as unique functionality goes, our combination steam oven is much more useful though. Fine control over steam in all heating modes really is a game changer.

If you have the space for two appliances, and if money is a more important factor, then yes, absolutely get two separate appliances.

Our situation was the opposite. While far from cheap, the incremental cost of the speed oven barely made a noticeable difference in the overall cost of the project. But the extra space needed for another appliance would have been a real concern. We were very interested in reducing space. And knowing our cooking style, we wanted additional oven(s).

The Miele SpeedOven is overall a good solution in this situation. Even a year later I stand by what I said. Would absolutely make the same decision again. But I am the first person to admit that our needs are probably different from he vast majority of kitchen remodels.

I've had the Wolf speed oven for about 6 months and really like it. Its not perfect. The controls for using the microwave are fine, just enter the time and go. The convection oven controls are not intuitive but not difficult. The maximum time you can enter is 99 minutes so you have to keep an eye on the time and add more minutes for a longer cooking time. Another pain is you have to push start after opening the door to check on something and if you forget it doesn't restart. i confess I just use it as a convection oven or as a microwave and don't use the combination features.

What i do love it for is baking cakes and pies. I use the short riser rack and it rotates so pies and cakes really come out nice. I live at 7k feet so cakes can be a bit wonky but the perfectly even cooking really helps. I also cook small batches of cookies on a pizza pan on the riser.

My other oven is in my 36 inch Wolf range so its nice to have this smaller oven to use for smaller meals. And its actually fairly roomy because of its depth. I can fit 2 medium casseroles in it side by side if put in front to back instead of side to side.

My kitchen is small and I was not doing a full remodel. I have a pantry cabinet that is about 26" wide so was thrilled to find the 25" wide speed oven that could be retrofitted into it. If starting from scratch a regular double oven set up with the micro over a regular oven would be more practical for how I use it. But I'm happy with how this worked out vs tearing out my cabinets and starting from scratch.

The Wolf Speed Oven is an absolute piece of junk. The settings are not intuitive at all and you need to reread the manual to figure out which buttons to push in what sequence for each type of food. The microwave feature is more or less fine but also has silly settings and requirements. MORE IMPORTANTLY this machine has never worked properly and has recurring problems with the main panel which resulted in the machine randomly switching settings whenever the machine is opened and closed or if the front of the machine is touched for any reason. I kept thinking maybe I was doing something wrong because it would take 45 minutes to preheat- who cares if it cooks fast if you have to wait 45 minutes for the thing to get hot?! They told me that was normal- until the machine burst into flames when my teenage daughter was making brownies. Thank god my nanny noticed and put the fire out in my brand new kitchen with my children home! My vendor contacted Wolf and they told me they could not get me a new machine for a year and a half! Note I had waited 13 months for this one already! Instead, they had Northeastern come and take the machine and said the part was backordered so it would be 3 months before it could be returned! When it was returned, it still smelled like a chemical fire which made me very uneasy. Now, 2 months later, the smell has dissipated but, you guessed it, the machine is having the same electrical problem! They are rushing yet another electrical panel but it will not be here by Thanksgiving when I have 20 people staying with me. Of course my custom cabinets have been built for this machine so I am stuck with this hunk of garbage. I should also say that my friend purchased the same machine for her kitchen and has had similar issues. I have spent 10's of thousands of dollars with this company and am extremely disappointed.

@ltuncer I'm sorry to hear about your terrible escapades with this unit. I've been using the 27" Wolf speed oven for about 4 weeks now and have had a different experience, more in line with @Esther Clark. There were virtually no reviews when we purchased (apart from the few comments in this thread), but I've been pleasently surprised. In terms of aesthetics, it looks lovely although the touch buttons can be difficult to see--have gotten used to that. I'd prefer knobs, but it seemed that most other SOs were likewise touchpads or screens. It's surprisingly spacious inside (same interior dimensions as the 30" model I believe)--can easily fit 2 9x13 trays/pans. As a micro, it's excellent, fast and efficient. As a convection oven, I've found it works extremely well *provided* you precisely follow the somewhat quirky interface: select temp, select time, allow to preheat, open door, insert items, close door, press start, etc. Fail to do one of those things and it just sits there. Not sure why it's designed that way. It took a few weeks to get used to it, but now that I know what to expect, I find that it preheats quickly and cooks really well. I use it all the time. Haven't used the combo micro-convection modes and not sure I will. We really wanted a second oven but didn't have much room, and wanted to avoid taking additional space for a separate micro. For our purposes, this was a great compromise. The rotating glass platter did crack in half last week, seemingly spontaneously--no idea why. Wolf immediately shipped a replacement. Fingers crossed it doesn't go up in flames!

We've had similar bad experiences with the Wolf Speed Oven as those described above. Brand new last year, it had power issues immediately and eventually wouldn't turn back on at all. After having electricians eliminate the possibility of the breaker/wiring being at fault, Wolf took the unit and replaced the motherboard and power supply. Now less than a year later, similar power issues with the microwave and convection oven is not heating at all.

Beyond the power issues, I agree with the comments about the controls being hard to see and non-intuitive for anything other than basic microwaving. Very disappointed and not what I would have expected from Wolf and this $3k product, as we are currently using an $80 countertop microwave that works as it should. Of course, my cabinets were custom built for this unit, so trying to figure out what my options are for something else. Curious if the Wolf dropdown microwave (non-Speed Oven) that looks to be an identical size has similar power issues. We have had good luck with Wolf/SubZ products in the past, but this one is a stinker

SubZ is great for refrigerators/freezers, especially if you are buying a model without an ice maker.

Wolf gas ranges are OK, but there are better options. Also, they still don't seem to have solved their issue with failing oven liners. I don't know much about their induction ranges, but would be annoyed by the lack of physical knobs.

Wolf (i.e. Cove) dishwashers still seem to suffer from growing pains. They'll probably get there at some point.

And as this thread shows, the speed oven is not quite as polished as you'd expect from this brand.

In general, I would always recommend to mix-and-match brands. Everyone has their strength and weaknesses. For refrigeration, SubZ is still hard to beat. For dishwashers, Miele is the gold standard. For functional gas ranges, Bluestar is uncompromisingly good, but does require extra care during initial set-up. For induction, I am not quite sure. For hoods, ModernAire or any of several other built-to-order brands are good. For speed and steam ovens, I am extremely impressed with our Miele. But considering the complexity of both appliances, I am disappointed that they don't over more than 5 years of warranty in the US market.

I too am having issues with control panel! wolf actually replaced eoth new and the installers put it in and informed me it didn't work. :(

Good customer service but a pain. Also, i didn't realize how confusing the cook/roast settings are. I'd go Miele.

I wonder if there has ever been a speed oven race?

We bought the Wolf Speed Oven Model #SPOTE/S/TH and it is the worst thing I've ever done. I should have just bought the wolf microwave with the trim and installed it above a wolf wall oven. I love the wolf wall ovensl...But, this "speed oven" has VERY hard little words to read; it does not work well for a second oven at all....I tried to use the bake and broil and a FIRE started inside the unit!!! I will never try using it for anything besides microwaving. Dumbest thing I've ever done.

We bought the Wolf speed oven as well. Very unhappy with it. First, the hinges were grinding and needed replaced. Then the convection oven would not heat. The switches were reset and the oven would only heat to 350. Any temperature above would never be reached and the oven would eventually go in to cooling mode. Very disappointed in this expensive appliance. Should have stayed with Miele.

I had to return mine because it happened to me the same as it happened to Ituncer. MIne burst into flames. Gladly my fire alarm alerted me, my house was all full of toxic smoke, it took weeks to get rid of it. It happened one week after I bought it and they reimbursed the money. I would not buy again

Have had the Wolf Oven/microwave for a month. The touch screen controls are small print and hard to see. I should have extra can lights installed.
