Nice space! I would go even bigger than 3 by 5. I think a runner will be too skimpy. A complimentary rug is fine as long as the undertones work together. You have a good eye, I'm sure you will be able to choose something that works. This is a gray jute.

How about a long church pew, back to the table area, facing the entry table? You could also hang a window from the ceiling behind it. A stained glass one would be pretty.

It's hard to tell the size of your dining area rug. Do the chairs stay on it when they are pulled out? If that rug was bigger, it might define the area better and not leave so much emptiness in the entry/path area.
