Solar panels for supplemental heat

What is wrong with the following scenario: connect three 40V, 365W panels in series and connect them to a 1000W space heater, one which has no controls or fan (except for a bimetallic thermostat). Put this in a garage or other outbuilding. Total cost: $800.

Short form, not with a typical heater - which will be wired for ac not dc. If you look on specialist solar sites you may find some info on how to set something up, but may have to be roll your own. You will not get much heat most of the time and especially in winter seasons (less sun) if you are further north.

Why wouldn't a heater run on DC? I did say with no fan (or any other motors). It's just a resistor!

Not saying it wouldn't in principle but that commercial heaters with controls etc not wired for it.
