Any recommendations? I’ve been wanting to try Michiko-renge, but I waited too long to order last year and it sold out. I have Jane and a M. Macrophylla.

I picked up a 'Lois' as I never tried a yellow flowering Mag. It has soft yellow flowers and blooms later than most other yellow flowering mags which is good for all the early season frosts we see.

I'm also going to get a groupoing of 'Chrysanthemifolia' - just a nice shapely, hardy, flowering cultivar. All will be in northeast expsure to keep them from flowering too early.

'Jane' is nice as it has a notable color and is one of the later flowering mags.

Chrysanthemifolia, cosmic gem, and sunrise. Apparently warm weather in January and nothing to do in the garden are worse than a cold, boring February night. Maybe I'll go look at seeds now.

Doesn't sound good - as though the current operators are not in it for the long haul. This is a gloomy time to be a plant lover. In spite of the economy recovering from the 2008-2012 recession, the storied nurseries of yesteryear seem to be fading faster than ever. Including local ones like Behnkes outside DC.

I think with someone new running it there are bound to be changes and a redirection. For magnolia specifically they mention smaller sizes in smaller pots, all own root, so I won't be expecting a huge plant when they arrive. I'm excited anyway, I wouldn't be trying them if they were larger pricier plants with a higher shipping cost.

The thing (for me) is I don't mind waiting for them to grow. I enjoy watching growth and I don't have to dig as big a hole :)

I actually feel that smaller sizes transplant better anyway. Due to this thread, I'm thinking I may have to order a witch hazel or two or three.

Ewww, shipping for one witch hazel is still around $25..that's too high. Maybe i won't be ordering.
