I believe the wall color is Ben Moore Metro Grey. I love the color and it changes a little depending on the light.

No a pro - but I would put the TV over there with an appropriate sized console. Then put a nice piece of art above the fireplace, remove the sconces.

A comfortable upholstered chair and a companion table or small chest plus a floor lamp could form a nice reading corner most of the year, and those items would be easy enough to move to other spots when you are ready for the Christmas tree again. An appropriately-sized area rug would also look nice.

Moving the TV into that corner over a larger console or cabinet would surely look better than hanging it over the mantel, but if that is the Christmas tree corner every year, do you have another place for the TV or another place for the tree?

another thought is to put a small game table with two or four chairs around it. the space looks like a pretty good size that could fit a table.

Consider a game table (round or square) with 4 chairs (the table can be moved to the opposite corner of this nook when the tree is up). Go crazy with the color and style to pick up that corner. I'd also paint or change the wall sockets to grey so they don't stand out so much. Above the fireplace is not my favorite spot for the TV (kink in my neck), but in this case I'd lower the TV so it doesn't look disconnected from the rest of the decor. The sconces are crowded and should probably another home.

We have to get a new one. I had a square simple wood one set up previously but it holds a puzzle max size of 500 pieces. So we moved it to the rec room and added it to the craft table. Fine for down there but not in my main room. So I’m on the hunt for a bigger table. For us we want it to be a rectangle not circle. I’m trying to somewhat be in an espresso type colour so it goes with other things in the space. Don’t want to spend a fortune so stumped for now.

Hello, You can have it all. Try a small (36"-42") drop leaf square table (for scrabble and checkers) that converts to a 48"-54" round table for poker or puzzles. A square extension table (36"-42") with leaves that pull out (so it's all contained) is also an option for those who want a rectangular table to work on and a smaller table when not in use. Crate and Barrel had these a few years ago, and they are very popular in the DC area with those who live in apartments and "Old Towne" type row homes. I really like the third photo labeled "Parlor".

Consider how you would light the corner - my choice would be for a floor lamp that has a big arc so it could be positioned for any table configuration. Pendant lights would be more difficult.

For a small game table, you might want a thin pedestal base rather than something taking up foot room -- perhaps even a metal pedestal.

I bought my pedestal base for my breakfast/game table separately (aluminum rather than stainless steel) and added a used table top from Habitat for Humanity Restore Store -- donating the thicker base I didn't like to a thrift store. I put top from a different table -- round side table -- on a smaller metal pedestal for a plant stand.

Don't discount thrift stores for potential sources of unusual and/or interesting tables. Except for the oak side table table top, both tables have parts re-purposed pieces purchased from Habitat for Humanity.

Question: is there another large room used for recreation? and what do you/yours do there?

I like all comments so far. My two cents: chair, ottoman, floor lamp, small bookcase/table with storage? This option is flexible and you can place the tree in the double window. But measure the space b/c a lot depends on the size. Window seat with storage, and move tree to the side? Do you need a desk area? Game table and 2 chairs? Yoga or art corner? Kid area?

This room is a great size and color. Is there more you would like to see as far as decorating (art, curtains, sofa table, lamps, etc.)? Tan curtains throughout similar to your couch will start you on a soft warm monochromatic look. Just some thoughts for down the road. Hope this helps! Have fun and keep us posted!

I think a little reading spot (chair/table/lamp) would be just right. Two chairs for a coffee spot if the view is decent. I'd watch the sizes and I'd use a different style chair from the couch (exposed wood legs and a higher fixed cushion back) just to prevent matchy-matchy. With a warm LED bulb the lamp would look nice from the outside. The Pratico Square Extension Dining Table is available at Crate and Barrel for too much money, but it gives you a general idea for a practical game/puzzle table. Love the colors you're using.

This is how it ended up. Took a recliner we already had that was collecting dust upstairs.

I would suggest moving the chair and table up to the corner of the rug, making it look included in the seating arrangement. It looks strange shoved in the corner. A couple large plants would be perfect, not just in corner, but in front of window.

If you move the chair to the rug, it no longer suits your stated purpose. I would remove the clock and add a couple of floating shelves to hold books and art, to make the purpose of the reading corner clear.

The chair is a little shoved in the corner as we just put it back after taking the Christmas tree down. I moved it out a little bit and it looks better. My husband hates the clock but I will take it down once I find art I like
