Unless you're ready to wipe up every drop of everything that hits that concrete top immediately, I'd suggest rethinking. The solid surface manufacturers make excellent lookalikes that far and away outperform the real thing.

A 30-36" sink in the bathroom? Have you looked at a yardstick and considered just how big a bathroom sink this will be? Your inspiration pix are standard sized sinks -- probably 20-22" wide. Specific thoughts:

- A sink that large would be a trough sink.

- I don't see this as a very practical set-up. You'll lose drawer storage on the sides of the sink. No to the horseshoe-shaped drawer -- and it's not about creativity; if your sink is 3' wide, your drawer would have to be 5' wide. Instead, you'd likely have two piddly-small drawers on the sides of the sink. Note that most of the inspiration pix I've shared incorporate NO drawers; you could get away with this if you have deep medicine cabinets and/or shelves to the side.

- You said single sink -- are you thinking of duplicate faucets emptying into this single sink? If so, getting wall-mounted faucets "even on the wall" is very tricky. If you're thinking of a single faucet, what's the point in such a wide sink? The edges of the sink would be "just for show".

- Consider that this large sink will "eat up" all your counterspace. What would you want to keep on the counter (remembering that you'll have little-to-no drawer space)? Soap dish, toothbrush holder, a place to set a curling iron -- these'll all be a full arm's reach from the faucet, which'll be positioned in the middle of the sink. Note how these example pix deal with this; for example, several provide a ledge behind the sink. If you do this, you'll need a looong faucet to reach into the sink.

- I'm sure you know that this is an unusual set-up; unusual things always cost more. Will this project be important enough /prominent enough in the house that you want to spend big on it?

Thank you for the comprehensive reply, Mrs Pete. My actual initial inspiration was this 36" drop-in Native Trails trough style sink. I think your fourth picture is the larger (48") version of this same sink.

I stopped in at local concrete fabrication shop yesterday to ask whether they could make something similar but to specific dimensions. Of course, they said they could. But after looking around their shop, I got inspired to consider a one piece concrete top/sink combo. I'm by no means committed at this point.

Yes, I completely agree that many of those designs eat up much counter space and that's something I want to avoid. Your last picture is exactly what I don't want. Zero counter space.

The reason for desire to offset the sink is to leave a good chunk of counter space to the right of the sink. I want a sink that's at least a little larger than "standard" simply because I like the aesthetic. I don't want a small single sink (especially if it's offset) to look puny in an overall larger vanity top. But you are correct that my initial inclination for 30" - 36" is probably too wide. I really do like that Native Trails drop-in style and would like to incorporate something very similar, custom made or not.

So with all of that said, what would be an ideal layout of a single sink in a 60"-66" top, that will allow for a useful drawer configuration, with a medicine cabinet mirror properly aligned with the faucet? I definitely want as much storage in the vanity as possible.

I am considering this Restoration Hardware medicine cabinet in "aged steel". The faucets will be Delta matte black and I'm hoping the "aged steel" is close enough to coordinate well.

Regarding the concrete countertop, we had a polished concrete countertop made for our master bath several years ago. It was sealed. I placed an orange Bath and Bodyworks candle in glass container on the lid and sat it on the countertop. The orange color transferred into the concrete.

Here is a picture of my 65" bathroom vanity with the large size RH mirror you like, only in nickel. I have two of them with one sink, offset to right. I needed a wheelchair accessible vanity so designed this one myself. It has one drawer to the left of the sink and the left leg has a pull-out with pegboard to hold my hair dryer and curling brushes and such. My counter top is only 16" deep because I needed floor space to allow wheelchair maneuverability.

I believe that my sink is 23" across, as a reference.

Nancy, thank you very much for the picture! Those medicine cabinets look great! I called RH to see if they could send a sample of the "aged steel" finish so I can try to determine if it will coordinate well with the matte black fixtures I have planned. Unfortunately, they don't have samples of that "aged steel"available (they said there is more than one "aged steel" finish).

Do you recall the size of your subway tile? I'm planning 4x12 white, floor to ceiling on that wall (simply for the aesthetic).

I still need to come up with a sink and drawer combo for the vanity. I found this Duravit trough style sink that could work. There are criticisms because it's not very deep and therefore water tends to splash. But it seems most are accepting of the form over the function.

I think I've decided, for simplicities sake, to center the sink. I'm not extremely keen on using an "off brand" sink but this ceramic drop-in trough sink (or it's slightly wider sibling) are of the style I'm after and seem to be a bit deeper than the Duravit drop-in sink.

Centering the sink will simplify the drawer layout on the vanity, as well are the medicine cabinet placement on the wall.

I'll probably order the RH "aged steel" medicine cabinet and see if it plays ell with the Delta matte black faucets.
