It does fine here - soil pH is 7.2 and it is planted on the north side of a very large oak tree. I'm not sure how much sun it gets because of the trees, but it has had no trouble at all with the soil.

I have neutral to basic soil and V. carlesii does fine here.

I also think it would be fine in your soil.

Very few plants are fixated on a specific soil pH. Most are rather adaptable and will grow happily within a certain pH range, provided other growing conditions are met. Having said that, the vast majority will prefer a slightly acidic soil as that is the condition under which the largest number of soil nutrients are available. pH skewed too far in either direction can limit nutrient availability and you may need to fertilize to offset any deficiencies.
