For under the cabinets you can cut the strips in specially marked areas on the strip. I don't know where they are on Hue strips, we used LifX. So, lets imagine you can cut the strip to be full length, 60", or 30" wide. We cut ours to be a little wider than the cabinets (for 42" cabs we would choose the 60" width) and then we had the strip return back toward the wall by 9" (9+42+9 = 60). This means the front edge of the cabinet is fully populated with light strip and the side edges are populated as much as you need to in order to keep extra strip from hanging down.

So, step 1 is seeing where you can cut the strip "legally" and still have it work, then you fudge the other numbers til it makes sense.
