I agree with adding color to this room! Once you have your furniture layout set, layering an area rug with color coordinating throw pillows (not too many, please), “art”, and area rug. At least front legs of seating pieces need to sit on the rug.

I am decorating a similar room—I already have two neutral sofas—and decided to find some art piece first to pull colors from. Original art is always my first choice but when I can’t find a piece or funds are short I go with a print. You might look on Society6 website for some interesting graphic art. They often have sales and you can buy it already framed. Most recently I bought a large graphic print mounted on multiple wood squares to add a little dimension to my plain room. A very trendy look, not expensive (on sale) and might work for you, too.

By the way, for years we had our sofas in an L figuration but over the holidays we had to switch and put them across from each other to make some space. I never did it this way before because it blocked the entry way, but the new arrangement really was much better for guests to gather and converse so we are keeping it too.

Hi, I like blues and greens. The wall color is rever pewter, the sofa color is sorta greyish! My room adjacent colors are shades of blue green. Thanks again. I’m not a fan of an area rug over carpet so I’ll have to ass color and pattern other places. Any art suggestions. ?

I like opposite sofas for entertaining and conversation. My first thought is moving the sofas to the full wall and opposite. As a guest, I feel almost trapped and not welcomed from the entrance in your photo layout. It would also be easier to hide lighting cords and place a side table if desired. If it was my room I’d look for a vintage table to place in the bay window, an interesting table with personality to accent the window shape plus it offers a lovely vignette opportunity that can be seen from the adjoining room. I’d consider a floor lamp beside one sofa if need be. Art over the sofa (no mirror) on the full wall. It’s a lovely room, take your time with it. Figure out the layout and functions before you buy any small things.

Agree with Bette P above, I think the sofas might be better, one against the full wall & the other opposite. You WILL have trouble with lighting if you keep the furniture in place as shown in your photos. Unless you plan to install a ceiling box for a small chandelier or flush mount, can lights or electrical outlets in the floor, you'll be needing table or floor lamps & there will be an issue with electrical cords running across the carpet...unsightly & dangerous. Personally, I would add a ceiling box & consider a chandelier. Is the room large enough that you can position the sofas slightly away from the walls? I also agree that bay window area is screaming for a beautiful/unusual console or table where you can also place lighting or the "lovely vignette" as suggested above. The room needs color...the walls, rugs & sofas all look alike. No to a mirror but instead find art/photos you like with color & interest. Take your time with this as often hurrying to buy decor from Home Goods type stores makes a space look like a staged model home. I have found some wonderful pieces there though & I love the look of inexpensive decor mixed with higher end. Find a FEW throw pillows for added color. Is there hardwood underneath that carpeting? I doubt it as if there was, likely carpeting would not have been installed. Consider wood flooring or maybe even replacing the wall to wall to something less generic looking, maybe something with a slight pattern or texture in the weave.

I would move the sofa to the long wall with the other one across from it under the window. Then you can place a glass console table in the window with the alcove, with buffet lamps. The room will be much more welcoming to walk into rather than having the sofa back block the only entrance to the room. If you want to add color and pattern, drapes on both windows would look wonderful, and will help the room coordinate with your blue/green in the adjacent room. If you add patterned drapes, I think a framed mirror above the sofa would be great. If you leave the windows with just the blinds, then use colorful art on the walls.

So please don’t look at accents. I came home and the hubby put it like this? He was just trying to get everything out of the room we had furniture delivered. This furniture is from our other room.

I tried to find some room phots w/similar set-up like yours

so imagine your windows behind the blue sofa,,,

and your other sofa across from it (like this one) with some colorful art hung on the wall behind it

then you could bring in two smaller chairs with a small table between them

or, even two of these small X-ottomans.

as for decor, you need some color. notice in all of these pics how they've arranged throws, pillows, rug, lighting, and even plants. find a taller plant near the window in a nice color pot

maybe a warmer wood coffee table, a nice hanging light over it. notice the added texture the sisal rug brings to the party. and some greenery makes the space come to life

look at the difference some beautiful window treatments would add to the room. (your current mini blinds just look unfinished. consider actual blinds or drapes)

this one in the picture is similar tones like yours. notice the lamps, side tables, the blinds, and pops of the gold and silver.

want a bit of color? try soft teals or blues that work w/the gray. or go w/black/white and silvers

I love this color of blue w/your gray sofas. bring in some art w/the grays/blues, linen ottoman, maybe some other blue elements like a side chair or X-bench for under the bay window, floor lamp,,,

How much space is between the coffee table and each of the sofas? It looks a little tight but pictures can be deceiving. Overall I like the look better.

can you take out the round table? you have a lot of curve and the round one is too much. I think ultimately you need some angles in there.

Have you ever tried the sofas at an angle? One sofa would tuck into the nook area, with its back against the corner of the nook. The other sofa would face it. The space between them would be open to the angled piece of wood flooring I see to the lower left of the picture. LOL I'm not a very good artist.

I think the new arrangement is much better. I would move the chair to a different room though, and put a glass console or a stool in the bay window instead - or just leave it empty. Right now it's too much of the same furniture. If you really want that much seating in the room, remove the chair pillows and drape the chair with a colorful or textured throw.

I didn't realize that one was a love seat and one a sofa. Did you see my post above about an angled option? Hard to know if that would work because we've only seen 3 sides of the room.

Sort of like this but I think your furniture is bigger. Maybe the sofa and love seat should be switched depending on which dimension of your room is bigger. I think you just have to try it and see. Hope it's not too heavy!!

I like that hubby just rearranged things while she was gone the last time, so maybe he will make this one happen too!

I think the angled arrangement could work really well in this room, given the angle of the bay window (and the angle for the carpet at the entrance to this space).... so the piece closest to the entry is placed parallel to the short window in the bay. This arrangement would be a nice way for all three pieces to fit in the room and work with the round table.

For the pillows, consider recovering the gray and white pillows at some point; the white is too stark to fit with with the cream color of the table and other pieces, plus the pattern itself is jarring in several ways (doesn't blend with the many curves of the upholstered furniture or with shape or pattern of the rug in the adjacent space).

Take your time with the pillows -- I would do them last! I'd settle on the artwork and any window treatments first, then the pillows can be colored to fit in with those other choices.

If the angled arrangement works, then maybe you could place a floor lamp at the end of the loveseat where it would be useful (switch on the light when entering the room) but also serve to partially obscure the thermostat.

I would recommend putting a photo of you/family or anything you want on the wall and as you said an aquarium is a good choice for a good attractive in that area.

I think your room is too small for both the sofa and loveseat. I would place the sofa on the long wall with a table and one of the black lamps on the left (facing) side. Place the chair angled in the opposite corner between the large window and the other window wall. Place an end table with the other black lamp on its left (facing). Place a large pot of greenery (think fiddle-leaf fig) to the right of the window wall (as you enter the room), in a beautiful pot. Find some large scale art for above the sofa, and paint that cocktail table in a dark grey. Good luck!

I would keep the arch window free of chairs , you could put a console table there or even the round table, also the round table can be used as side table to connect the chairs and place the longer table in the Centre.

With only one opening into the room, I don't think any kind of angle is going to look right in the space. You may be able to use the chair in a bedroom or other area of your home. All you need to do it add lighting and art or a mirror.

You could also place that upholstered bench under the double window, with the large plant on its (facing) right.

In this arrangement, I'd place the small little table with the lamp in the corner between the couch and sofa and find something else that is more sculpturally substantial and interesting for that high visibility spot. Maybe a good sized plant as suggested earlier and a cool floor lamp?

With your neutral color scheme, any color in the art would look good.

Definitely needs a plant (and some natural green) in that corner between the window. Instead of so many side tables (I spy 3), I'd have one between the sofa/loveseat, the coffee table within 18" of the big seating and a drink table by the chair. Is the lamp the only lighting in the room? If so, maybe a slim reading lamp by the chair.

Weighing in on this one....I say stick to your guns on your current arrangement with the L and the chair. I also like the round coffee table as is. To keep from getting overwhelmed I would suggest now to concentrate on a rug and window treatments. Do you want creams, greys, and beige for a monochromatic look, then with little pops of teal? Or do you want a rug with teal and teal curtains to make a more dramatic teal statement?

I don't like rugs on top of carpet either but everything is so close together color wise that you may need it. ( I am now wondering the same about my living room...) You have some great foundation pieces, you are off to a great start! Keep us posted, and fix your hard working husband a glass of sweet tea from us!

Does the adjacent room have any colors that you want to repeat in your art work? If not, first decide what size you want. It should be about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of the sofa including arms, and centered over it with the bottom of the art work about 6'-10" above the back of the sofa. How wide is your sofa? I would ignore the vent and other items on the wall unless they actually bump into the size of art that you need.

You could look for an original piece, but if you're going to go for a reproduction then a site like art.com is a great place to start. You can search by color and size. DH and I recently purchased a reproduction from them that we both really love. It went into an existing correctly-sized frame that was already over our sofa.
