Sounds perfect! If you planted them late, they’ll probably just pop out of the ground and easily fit into a pot. You’ll find them in the spring when they start to come up! I’m from near Greensboro, I’m wondering if we’re going to have a winter this year.

death sentence.. crikey... dig them up and throw them on the driveway.. and they wont die ... not much to worry about.. in your zone ...

if you can replant them in a couple weeks ... just put them in a plastic grocery bag with some soil .. and put them in full shade for a few weeks .. then just replant ... you would skip a lot of money and time in finding pots.. media.. etc ...

or.. dampen some media.. and pot them up ...

ps: mine are frozen into the ground.. for the next 3 months ... i doubt you have to worry about cold ... though you might want to make sure they dont get swamped with too much rain ...

You could also dig bare root and put in plastic bags in the crisper section of your fridge. This is how some of the big (but not necessarily great) sellers do it, plants are received in the fall, then kept bagged bare root in cold storage.
