I like the pouf!

50 shades of beige! :-)) I did mocking up for visual. I think would be good with pouf.

Thanks celerygirl...I didn’t know how to do that. I think it could make it more complete looking. I’d have to order it on line from Article so wouldn’t be sure of the exact color until it comes.

Mrs Pete... I go back n forth as I don’t want the room to look cluttered. It’s just when I walk in from the hallway it seems unfinished there. I’ll have to think more!

I'd go with a smaller chair (more seating) maybe in a textured pattern, or go with the pouf. I feel like you that the corner needs something.

Now, can we talk about your kitchen (or is there a thread somewhere that tells all about it?) I'd love to know the height of your ceilings, the name and color of your cabinets, the counter top type, and color. It's beautiful!

Nhb22 and Beth H, the counters are Taj Mahal. We searched for a neutral slab as some Taj Mahal has more rust and gold. I think the ceiling in there is 9’. The cabinet builder used Benjamin Moore Scuff X paint matching Dunn Edwards Whisper color.

That pouff is so wrong for that room!! If you really think you need something go for a rectangular upholstered ( leather) ottoman big enough to hold a tray.

I think that chair in front of the fireplace looks stuffed in & awkward. Can you move the chair to where you'd place the pouf? Add a COLORFUL pillow & perhaps there's room for a small side table next to the chair. If the chair is too big for that spot I can see a pouf but I'd sure not buy one in yet another beige color. Make it colorful. Another option is to remove the existing chair & purchase a smaller one in a patterned, colorful fabric. Put THAT new chair where the pouf would be.

Large chair in corner, or on the other side of FP. Add a smaller textured/patterned chair (when I said patterned, I do mean with a bit of color) in the opposite position. Either way, I would place the standing lamp behind the chair where the bit of blank wall is between the window and fireplace wall. I'd also add a side table next to the sofa.

So is the Taj Mahal a Quartz, or Quartzite ? I thought I had read someplace that Quartzite can have problems and to go with real Quartz. I am just learning.

Of course I would finally find a cabinet that I like and it would be custom made and painted. Boo!!!

I normally dislike monochromatic spaces but because of the different shades and textures, I find your space very appealing.

I just bought a leather pouf for our basement and I love it. It adds something different to the space.

Quartzite is real stone. Quartz (when talking about counter material) is a manmade combination of stone and plastic/resin materials.

Some stones are labeled quartzite but are actually marble/dolomite. Those can stain and/or etch and/or scratch.

Quartz does not have the same heat resistance that true quartzite does, and based on KarinMT's recent writings, it also does not have the same durability as a true quartzite to some staining and to mechanical (scrub) cleaning.

I don't mind the pouf, but I'm questioning if it's going to be really useful for seating or just a filler? I like the idea of something a bit more useful like a leather ottoman.

Quartz countertop is a man-made material using ground up quartz (which is a mineral) mixed w/resin.

Taj Majal is an actual quartzite. Quartzite is harder than granite. It's completely stain proof and will not etch.

However, a lot of stone yards label their slabs as a quartzite when in fact it's a marble, or dolomite, or something different. There are tests you can use to determine if it's a marble or granite or quartzite. for example, glass will scratch marble but turn to powder when scratched across granite or quartzite.

lemon juice won't make a mark on quartzite, but will etch marble, and if left on long enough, dolomite. (Super White is dolomite, not a quartzite as some stone yards would have you believe)

Yes, Taj Mahal is quartzite and harder than granite. I love mine and have had no problems with it. It sounds like from what Beth said you better check it out and make sure you get it from a reputable place.
I measured the area for that larger pouf (it’s 30”) and it might be too large for that area. I wish I could try a few things there but it’s hard when you have to order from an on line picture and pay return shipping if you don’t like it.

I like the poof and maybe something organic in the corner with a more exciting chair.
