Help with Art Studio

I am carving out a space for an art studio in my basement. It feels cold. I am going to add electric baseboard heat, but want to make the area cozy. I have 2 inexpensive rugs I could use and have ordered a gray with subtle ivory circles. Not sure which is best. 2 are 5x7 the multi is 8 x 11. The TV will be removed. A dark gray chalk painted china cabinet will go on the wall behind the table to hold supplies. I will probably get a similar chair for the instructor. Does anyone know of an app that will superimpose things in your room photo? Which rug? Chair ideas?

    The grey rug I ordered.

Wise advice. The current chair is comfy. I found a swivel chair on an art supply site that will do nicely I don't like ones with rollers. Maybe when I hang pictures, get the cabinet and rug in place , it will look more welcoming. Maybe an artificial tree? Maybe I am overthinking. I work with pencils mostly. Another space will be for sculpting. It will be left pretty bare.

Light is definitely on my list to consider.

Have you considered using your rugs as well hangings -- "comfy" for the room but without the risk of getting art supplies spilled on them. Like all the rugs but, for the floor, prefer the neutral gray. You might put it in your "office" / "relaxing" end of the room rather than the center of your workspace.

I would not put rugs in an art studio where they will probably be filthy in no time. You talk about an instructor, is this going to be an actual art studio for multiple artists? Please no fake tree .I have a few friends that are artists and their studios all have one thing in common bare floors and lots of flat surfaces for supplies close at hand. Usually multiple easels for works in progress , actually pretty messy looking most of the time.

There will be several students taking private lessons. I have decided to use the rug in the sitting area for parents. There is one child taking lessons. I might hang one on the wall. It will provide insulation. Thanks to everyone for comments. I will try to find pics of using rugs on a wall. I want it to look nice, even if it gets a bit messy.

I have been able to collect ideas and think things out more carefully. Thanks again

Haha! Glad you aren’t hanging students! If using space for students, i would consider overall floor plan first. You might need a separate “station” for each student and yourself. Also, you need to be facing students. Please post size of space and I can offer some ideas. Rugs seem unnecessary at this point. If some are needed, check out Flor.com for their carpet tiles. These could be cleaned easily, give ability to change configuration as needs change. I have used these with clients and in my hubby’s office.

Here is flor tiles in hubby’s office. Solved a really bad flooring problem in the casita (office). Feels good, cleans easily, looks great, insulates cement floor making warmer in winter.

An alternative to rugs on wall, consider a variety of throws hung on rods with clip rings. You could easily move about to suit moods too. Here is one from Arhaus and Home Goods etc. have after holidays sales.

I would also paint walls off white neutral color as backdrop for displaying art. Check out systems for hanging art too. Depending on sizes, a fun method is use wire cleaner hangers and pinch clothes pins to hang paper sketches.
