The light in the built-ins only accents one shelf. A waste, IMO. Remove the shelves and either hang art or add tall sculptures.

I see no electrical outlets for floor lamps…there is power in the bookcases, so an electrician could add something like these.

Great suggestions, Judy! Thank you! There are actually outlets for both chairs nearby. The Leopold chair on the left has an outlet built into the floor underneath it. And there’s an outlet behind the curtain panel next to the other chair. :)

That's great news, blushpink! Now all you have to do is select the lamps!

I would do pharmacy shades, they will give you the best reading light as the light is forced down and over exactly where you need it, so depending I think two floor lamps would be better as it will get right over the book unless the table lamp you choose has a long arm. Too often I see with table lamps people tilting the shades to get the light over to them.
