Lol, Ive seen that before -but so true!

We haven't really got a winter here though. Not a freeze anyways.

I am holding my breath. My dwarf mulberry is breaking dormancy. I pray it doesn't start flowering and making fruit. The year before last, it did that, then we got a late freeze in March and just avout every one of those 1000s of berries fell off! I was so mad :/

jerzeegirl - I've always told people that I didn't need to join a spa to get a sauna, all I have to do is walk outside in the summer. Sometimes, I actually sit out there and let myself sweat, because sweating is good for you. Of course, then, I have to go take a nap. LOL

Sultry, we've had freezes the last few years I've been here, but only one bad one a couple of years ago, which killed my hibiscus down to the ground. They have never really recovered. They used to bloom like mad, now they barely bloom at all. The gold one does bloom, but not like it did, and the red one has had two blooms all year. No blooms at all last year. I'm thinking of taking them out.

The thing I hate about the fake spring is that everything blooms, then it all freezes and doesn't bloom again in the actual spring. I've never had my amaryllis freeze all the way down to the ground but once in the 5-1/2 years I've been here.

My garden is confused with the seasons, I have mangoes blooming while I am harvesting carrots and onions.:)

Even the Walmarts up here have been putting out the tropical fruit trees early in NE FL. I took these a few weeks ago. They look kinda bad but still tempting lol.

Sultry, I was not aware there were mangos and starfruit that would grow up here. Do you have to put them into your greenhouse in the winter? I had a volunteer avocado (probably Haas) come up a couple of years ago. It's hanging in there, but not growing much. It should take off this summer. Sadly, it's right up next to the wall where I have to remove all the plants. It's scrawny, but about 7 feet tall. I may try to cut it back and put it into a container to save it.

No telling if people who buy the tropical fruit trees at the nurseries up here, know if they have to put them in the gh or not lol. It says cold hardiness is 40F on the tags of most of them.

If its tropical, I have to put it in the gh in the winter. I have Starfruit, Longan, Monstera, Dragon Fruit, and some tender citrus that have to go in there. I got a HASS Avocado from a local nursery that is grafted to a hardy roostock from an avocado variety that they have growing in the ground on their property. So far its done better for me than any other avocado (meaning I haven't killed it yet lol) Two things hate me: Avocados and Jade Plants (the succulents not the vines).

It seems silly to start too soon, I live in Southern British Columbia, Canada! This is f--ing cold snowy year! And it hasn"t stopped! So we aren"t planting anything {but we are dreaming} for the big melt! Coldest year in 30yrs. But do I do enjoy your lovely pictures! And I will send pictures in April ot sooner hopefully!

The "second winter" is coming next week. Tuesday night they're calling for 26 degrees up here in Gainesville. Seems like I just got all the plants back outside, but here they come back in! I wish I had a greenhouse, but alas, no room.

I'm sad because I planted my last two velvet bean seeds this fall and they are just starting to bloom. I'm sure they'll be very dead after Tuesday. No way to cover something that is taking over everything. Same thing for my pigeon pea. It's just starting to attract bees and make peas.

This has been the craziest year so far.

Just can't help it though,...I LOVE this FAKE SPRING we're enjoying ! Was up & out around 09:15 AM this morning, felt energetic for a change and completely washed/waxed & detailed my 2009 Ford Ranger pickup truck like it has never been before. Then strutted into the backyard for more work,..finally got back inside around 2 PM,..definitely a banner work day for this old timer ! Took off my long sleeve shirt, popped a cold one and went out on the lanai to relax. That's when I saw the temp had risen to 80 deg here,..a whisper of a breeze just able to sway the sabal palm leaves a bit, an 80 % clear blue sky with a few thin clouds. A dynamite " Chamber of Commerce Day " if I ever saw one,..right here in little 'ol Englewood.

AND IT"S STILL January 26th ???

Yeah, on days like today I am so happy i moved down this-a-way ! LOL

Jofus, so funny and so true. Past 2 days I've been planting like mad my annual small bedding plants for color and detailed my old sedan and today this advanced-in-age body is super exhausted. My yard on the Pinellas peninsula doesn't get a "freeze" either. I fear it will be a looooong summer.

It's almost time for the Pollening here, I fear. Oak leaves are falling...

I had a rain bucket out with water in it and there was some yellow pollen floating in it. It seems like its too early but something must be starting. It turned cold and rainy today so it might delay it for a bit longer.

Pollen forecast 2/14-16 Tampa Bay says High then Moderate for Oak, Cedar, Maple.

I don't see any pollen but we only have Oak of these 3 nearby.

I've wondered how accurate these TV station pollen "forecasts" are. Are they just based on past history, i.e., "historically pollen increases in middle of February here", or are measurements being constantly done? Anyone have a clue?
