I also agree the shutters are tired and outdated. Problem being the brick is now hopelessly bleached around them so removing the (builders) shutters would be very noticeable and make the windows look smaller I would think....?

I can't enlarge your pic and it's very small, so I really can't say. didn't even know that was brick!

as for making the windows look smaller,,,no, it won't.

maybe you could do a close up that shows the brick, the window, the trim,,,etc.

I like the garage door color you picked though. did you like the darker one?

I also like the one that blends into your brick color. they both work. It's just a matter of the direction you want to go.

I thought there was a rule of thumb that garage should blend in with brick, so had a sand door for 20 years or so.

But it's such a big part of the front facade I thought turn it into a decorative element and thought the slate variegated colour set off the stamped driveway nicely.

If you are going to leave the shutters, I would paint the garage doors the same. I think the dark is too dark but the light one is too light.

I think the very first picture, IMO, is by far the best choice. It makes your house look larger and doesn’t emphasize the garage. It looks very attractive.

I like them both. The darker colors pull more focus to the garage, but that might be what you want.

Hi Susan - there is "no rule of thumb" each project is different...In this scenario, in particular because the garage is so prominent in front of the front of your house, and because of the "details" arches and glass - more architectural, not "standard" - calls for a more dramatic color. To keep things consistent - I would match the garage door color to the front door and shutters - hope this helps...

I can see CK Hoffman's point with the garage door being so prominent. Regardless of color, it will still be prominent. Go with what appeals to your eye the most.

I understand your concern with removing the shutters. However, they don't seem to fit the style of the house or windows. I would remove them and beef up the window trim.

People are staining their doors to look like wood. I’ve read before how they do this, and it’s not that difficult.

I would cut down the tree from the bed near your lamp post. It's out of proportion to your house and the other landscaping. The one I mean is the weeping tree, I believe it is a weeping mulberry. We had one by our front walkway too - they were very popular for awhile. But they get overgrown and shapeless and are especially unattractive in winter. You don't need a tall shrub/tree in that spot.

How about a navy blue?

Thanks partim I agree about the tree! It does look cleaner without it. That tall shrub by the house isn't as full as it looks... I kept it for privacy when I sit on my front porch.

Hello, I have a few photo updates, with the new garage door and the front door and shutters painted to match (bronze). Beth H, you just posted that arch windows in garage door are "out", so glad I didn't choose that.

I think the lights on either side of the garage door don't work....?

I'm open to any thoughts.
