If you like marble, check out Montclair Danby. It has similar coloration to what you are looking at and is pretty durable, for marble, and beautiful. I have it in my kitchen and love it.

I have river white in all counters plus large island. I loved it initially because it’s so light and quite beautiful. Now after 5 years I find I’m a slave to it and always have been- always working to prevent or remove stains (even with re-sealing). I wish I had done the island in a black or butcher block and river white on counters. Good luck and I’m sure any of these you’re looking at will be gorgeous.

Shasta - would you possibly share a photo of your kitchen?

A picture of her kitchen is not really going to help you. IMO first figure out if you want white or off white cabinets then you choose a counter the other way works if you let the counter drive the cabinet choice but you need to start with one or the other. Where is your kitchen designer in this process? What colors do you like , warm colors or more on the gray and cool side. A kitchen is art of a whole design and needs to be designed to work with the rest of the house. Is this a new build or a renovation? All the samples need to be in your space before choosing too that is why I say seeing someone else's kitchen really does not help you.

Keep it simple in small kitchen. The colonial (last one shown) with white cabinets and a hardwood floor would be classic and never really be outdated. Something like pewter cup pulls or hardware in general to personalize things...maybe an edge detail to island top ...special faucet for your single bowl sink. ETC. do you have a budget .... you need good storage in the smaller space and that means drawers so allow that bit more expense when you think about counter decision.

How much space do you have between the island and the perimeter counters? I ask because depending on island size you may not have enough room for an island

We need to see the floor plan or some pictures IMO 10x13 barely needs an island and sometimes can’t have an island at all.

My own kitchen is 11 x 15 and I do not have room for an island. Instead, I have used an IKEA island cart (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/foerhoeja-kitchen-cart-birch-80035920/). I painted the base black as I wanted it to “disappear”. It’s perfect - only 17“ wide, but there is enough overhang at both ends (about 41” long) for two IKEA stools.

We used river white granite on all counters in our house. This granite can have rust spots, some can be large, so be sure you’re there when they cut it. We love the different colors in the granite, and it goes will with all our floors.

We went with a bolder counter pattern (Cambri Brittanicca) and tile up the main wall and a little backsplash along the opposite counter. Luckily I saw Brittanicca at a friend's house and liked it, and saw Silestone Calacatta Gold at another house and liked that, but the pattern disappeared when I stepped back. I need glasses so I wanted to see it! The cabinets are DuraSupreme Linen White along the wall and Feather on the peninsula (you can't really see it in these photos).

Obviously we're still working on it. :-) Have fun! FYI I liked the marble look too. Look at Caesarstone, Cambria, Silestone, MSI Q for marble looks.

I vote river white. I'm not sure why, just my first instinct.

I would select a less busy granite for a smallish kitchen so the space is not overwhelmed with pattern. I have granite on the perimeter cabinets and oak butcher block on the average-size island. I used the same granite for the backsplash areas including a single large slab over two 30” side-by-side ranges. When different materials are used for backsplash and counter, you have to pay special attention to matching the whites. White and cream often do not work together as shown in the picture above with the orange kettle.
