I recieved an screech owl box for Christmas that I am excited about. I have read that it should be 10-12 feet above ground,facing Northeast out of the prevailing winds. My questions are how far away from a house should it be? Also the tree I had located for the box I noticed a squirrel nest high above in the same tree,should I stay away from that tree?? And what time of year (month) is the best for mounting the box. I know I will have to watch it making sure squirrels do not inhabit the box and somehow try to attract an owl.
