Who is going to use the rooms and how heavily. What is important is the fiber used in the carpet. Nylon wears better and is more durable than polyester. Currently we have polyester in the bedrooms since there is only my hubby and I. Now when we had kids I preferred nylon. Pattern and color is personal preference. I prefer a neutral plush . A good carpet and pad will last many years and having a neutral will let you change decor. My last carpets lasted 20 years (with kids). If you are planning on buying a cheaper carpet then it would be fun to play with color and patterns since it will need to be replaced sooner. You can't beat carpet in the bedroom for warmth, lushness on the feet and sound damping.

No pattern. We love carpet for kids bedrooms. They play on floor often and it’s great!
