Master Bathroom advice

My husband and I are building a new home and working on the details of our master bathroom. Our Vanity is going to be a natural oak color and I plan to use Chrome faucets and some most likely some type of brass vanity lighting. We have a mix of brass, chrome, and black finishes all throughout the home).

I keep going different directions as to what finish to use for the cabinet hardware (Brass, chrome, or black) and what finish the border of the mirror should be (Brass, chrome, or black). I am also struggling to find a vanity light that I really love.

I have a sketch of what the vanity will look like and just need some help piecing the remaining details together.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there! What type of oak...white oak, red oak, regular old golden oak?

Here is our current inspiration board.. The Oak wood cabinet sample you see if the color we will be using.

I have never come across a vanity light that I loved! I prefer the look of sconces flanking the mirrors. It creates better lighting for your face too. If you choose to go with sconces just make sure the sinks will be centred under the mirrors.

The vanity configuration looks lopsided to me. I'd do something more like this for balance.

why did you pick that color wood? it's not a natural oak color, it's stained maple or birch.

Are you sure you want that wood color?

with that wood option, I'd rethink the chrome and do a brushed nickel.

If you had white or gray cabs, I think the chrome would be fine. but on that type of wood? nope.

The black would work if you had some darker elements (like black tile or floor).

But, since you're using the porcelain that looks like marble, and the white/gray quartz, I'd go w/the polished nickel or even a soft brass.

these are both a natural white oak

this one may be natural red oak since it has the pink tint.

Thank you for the feedback. And you are correct, the wood choice we selected is maple, not oak. The builder that we are using has the following selections of stains in regards to a "natural wood tone". The one we chose was as close as I felt I could get to the look I was after, without getting too gold. This stain will also be the color of our island in our kitchen (surrounded by white cabinets). Here are the colors of stain we are able to choose from. Do you feel one of these is a better fit? (The name of our selection is amber mocha)

I love the inspiration board. It really helps to visualize things. IMHO, the stain color you're looking at for your cabinet has a bit of a "dated" look. That said, however, styles and colors are constantly changing so you really need to get what you love. It'll reflect you in your home. If it was up to me I'd probably try to get to a stain color that is closer to either the lighter or darker tones in your flooring. The selection on your board seems to be a bit redder (I think that's the color I'm seeing) than the tones in the flooring. And, now that we've all chimed in on things other than your question of what finish for your cabinet hardware!!- I think I agree that a shiny chrome mixed with that wood won't look as pleasing as a brushed nickel or the brushed brass. Best wishes to you!

A batroom is relatively small space. I would stick with one type of finish throughout. If you like warm tones, based on your selection of wood finish, the brass (shiney or antiqued or brushed) may be the most complimentary. Make certain all of you metals are available in the same finish before finalizing! We found out the brushed nickle we originally chose was not available for the glass shower door handle, so we switched to chrome and are very happy.
I also have different finishes throught the home but try to limit the array to one type in each room, all in the cooler silvery tones.

I like your stain color choice.

Oak natural... simple no undertones to compete with anything. My new kitchen is white oak natural no stain...style of the house is simple craftsman like so i went with simple natural cabinets

what about the oak natural , oak nutmeg, or maple wheat? those seem a little less dated looking and more natural.

The white cabs that Lisa just posted are a nice shade and wood species. Can he make it out of that wood and use a natural oil?

you said this is a bathroom vanity? he's building it? have you thought about buying one already made? I know they make those size vanities w/a tower in many types of finishes.

this one is similar to the stain color you picked, but yours has more red to it.

or, can you builder use white oak instead of maple to actually build it? This one is knotty alder with a light walnut stain.

maybe use painter grade wood and have it painted?

Beth is right. The oak natural would complement your floor better than the original choice. And oil rubbed bronze hardware would be a nice contrast.

The color you currently plan to stain your vanity reminds me of 1990s builder grade cabinets. I think it would be more attractive in a darker, less yellow stain.
