HELP! Entryway rug placement dilemma...

Someone please help. Maybe there is no right or wrong answer, but I need some guidance for how large my entryway rug should be and ideal placement.

Part of the problem is that my front door does not align in the middle of the rest of the entryway. The entryway leads into my living area and so I’m faced with either aligning/centering the rug to my front door OR centering it to the frame leading into my living area.

On top of that, I have a console and I’m not sure whether or not to have rug in front of the console or sitting on top of it.

Dilemmas dilemmas!!

Does anyone have any strong opinions about this? Maybe I’m making it a bigger deal than it is. Thanks in advance!!

Not a pro but my eyes like it aligned with the door as in your green outline.

I think I’d like it more if it was sized like the purple, not so long and a little more squared

Another vote for the green outlines spot. I really like this lovely area ... the contrast of the vintage-ly modern console with the traditional rug, the painted woodwork, the floors ... just beautiful! Great style. :)

The whole point of an entry rug is for people to step on when entering so centered on the door .

I love Turkish/oushak style rugs like this one but I think I want to get a different one with different colors (not a fan of the orange in my current rug for some reason). That being said, how is the size of my current rug - should I look for longer or wider? Do y’all think it looks odd leading into living room since it doesn’t align with doorway/doorframe?

that rug looks great with your floor by the way. i think the orange works with tone of floor.

Lined up with the front door and centered in the foyer nicely defines that space. I don't think it needs to also line up with adjoining rooms.

I love that rug, and I like it in front of the door, but I still vote for a wider one. One that would "square up" or fill the area, which I think would eliminate your worry about the alignment with the living room doorway.

Love the rug. The dog is too cute too. And another vote for front door alignment. Wider would be fine too, but that is an awfully nice rug, and a wonderful entry way.

I should have clarified: I love that rug and it's great lined up with the front door and with the area; I'm not saying it needs to be replaced. If you didn't have that rug and it was an open space and you asked, "Should I use a 1) runner in front of console or 2) runner lined up with front door or 3) wider rug," I'd vote # 3.
