Oh my goodness, Nancy! My first thought was 'thank God Nancy didn't get hurt!'. But then I think of all the damage done to your yard, fish pond, plants, trellis, deck, fence, etc. and that must have you shook up and upset. Were they under the influence of something, distracted, what the heck? I mean, how did they end up in your yard? I hope they have insurance to compensate for the damages but you can't put a price on beloved plants that might be lost. If you lost anything I have, let me know and I will be happy to send you a bunch. So sorry for the rough day! Just glad to know you or hubby weren't injured. You might need a glass of wine tonight:)

So sorry about that. It must have been scary as heck if you saw it all happen. So glad you weren't hurt. Were the drivers alright too? Hope their insurance was up to date.

I think wine is just what I need! They finally all left, although wrecker still has not come. Probably morning now. I may not know til spring if any plants were taken out. The driver had finished for the day and taken his sister's car, which was insured. Had been drinking a bit but not drunk, supposedly. In the words of the driver's buddy, he took of like a bat out of ... May not really involve a lot of money if it did not mess up the house foundation when he pushed the deck back. Still the pond will need a new liner, and paving messed up. But work ahead...

I appreciate the offer, Celeste, but I figure any plants they might have taken out will be paid for. Just hoping Two Sue's did not get hit, I think that one will be hard to find. I think is should be ok.

I was in the kitchen when ht hit. Thank goodness for the deck, he would have been in the kitchen with me. Would have been nice if someone had shown him where the breaks are.

Wow Nancy . I am so sorry to hear this . You sound quite calm in your post but I am betting that is not the case . What a rotten thing to have happen especially at this time of year ( is there ever a good time ?) but hopefully you have a greenhouse or somewhere where you can keep potted up dislodged daylilies . Ground here is not frozen so hoping for your sake neither is yours and you can rescue some of your best dayliies .

YIPE! That is quite a story. So sorry it happened. Make sure the insurance takes care of everything. Hold off with any final document in case some daylilies don't pop up so they can replace them too.

photo taken through the window. I don't know if you can tell, but he really traveled a good distance before he hit the deck. Apparently never hit the brakes. The wrecker came, where his wheels spun when he tried to back out and leave just dug down in. I can't tell in the dark for sure, but pretty sure he did some damage. He is in trouble, he hung around for a while but left before the police got there.

Nancy, this is the kind of excitement we all can do without!! So glad you are all right but yes, looks like a lot of damage. Those ruts in your yard will require a lot of repair work not to mention all the rest. But things can be repaired and replaced-again just thankful you are undamaged!! Hoping your plants survived this hit.

I went out to look at things this morning with the car out. I thought both wheels were on the bed, but went more slanted. He spun in the front wheels pretty deep trying to back out and get away. A large clump of Butterfly Moon is gone, Cosmic Odyssey, and All of my Love to you look to be gone. The deck itself has a chunk notched out of the 2x8 facing on it, but other than pushing it back into the siding, I don't think the foundation is damaged. My fish pond is about 6' circle. I cleaned it out last fall and left a 35 gallon tub of water plants til I decided what I wanted to put back in. It was full of water with all the rain. He went into the pond, turned over the tub, went through the trellis (heavy sturdy one my DH built) and still hit the deck. After driving slightly uphill about 200'. I am in awe!

Thanks for all the sympathy, but after the initial few minutes, it really seemed more funny than anything. No one was hurt, he was upset though, afraid of being deported apparently. I felt sorry for him, but not too much. Should not be drinking and driving. The worst thing is my cat is missing now. She is very nervous and often hangs out at the pond. Hoping that all the excitement and strangers lingering just keeping her at bay. She is more of an indoor cat, so this is very unusual for her. I have been searching, but no luck yet. The neighbor's cat that seems to live here is no where to be seen either, and she never misses breakfast. Hopefully they are together and safe.

Now that the damage is seen and no humans were hurt, I'd be most upset about my cat. They are like family. I hope your neighbors cat and yours are hiding in the shadows together holding paws until the coast is clear..............Drinking and driving are never a good mix. Glad you can see some humor in it now but you have to wonder how he got so far into your property. It is not as though he or the passenger could have possibly thought they were still on the road. What a shocking experience! So sorry for the plants you lost and the work ahead. Please let us know when your cat comes back.

What craziness! That part of your yard is so far from the road. He must have been going really fast! So sorry for the daylilies you lost and damage to the pond and deck. And to think I was mad when a huge garbage truck drove a little ways into my backyard yesterday and left deep ruts four inches down. At least it missed my circle bed.

Looking at your picture and the curve of the road, it looks like he took either a hard right or a hard left onto your property depending on which way he was travelling ( or are those tracks from the tow ). Wonder if he swerved to avoid an animal cuz that is really looking like he didn't slow down . Also your property looks fairly rural so could it have been a deer? He probably panicked and having even a few drinks sure wouldn't help

I know, Heather, weird. He said the steering went out, worked fine when the tow truck driver drove it out. At least he did not have to drive his truck in the yard to get it. As much rain as we have had this winter, especially the last few days, I an surprised there is no more damage to the yard

Still no sign of my cat. It has been raining all morning so I have not been able to search as well as I need.

Last year a large utility truck turned around in my driveway but his maneuvering was horrible. Weather was like it is now with saturated ground. He drove forward into one of my beds and got a wheel stuck which he proceeded to spin until he was able to back up. That wheel was on top of a clump of an older lily that got totally shredded. So then he backs into my yard and leaves multiple ruts in it. I spent a lot of time repairing that damage. It looks like your ruts run a long way-like others, very surprised he was able to travel that far on muddy saturated ground. That speed must have been pretty high. What a mess!

Do you have any sardines? Or can get some easily? They are supposed to be irresistible to cats and very stinky. Check about 3 AM and if you can leave your door cracked a little bit that shes normally uses, she may sneak in.

Nancy, as to the ruts, that too the insurance should pay to have fixed. Personally I wouldn't fix anything except to check out the daylilies and find the cat. Add destroyed daylilies to the bill.

Wow, Nancy! I am so sorry. A boring life is better than this disaster. I really hope your cat comes home. The cat may be in hiding due to all the rain as well as the poor driving that resulted in a disaster.

Thanks Maryl! Mocha is especially nervous cat. The neighbor's cat is pretty stoic as long aS she is fed. She is not fond of Mocha though, so surprised they would run off together. Just happy they are both safe

A few years ago, my youngest daughter's boyfriend drove while intoxicated and drove right into one of my long borders by the road while attempting to maneuver the driveway. He drove right up on top of the terraced wall, taking out rosebushes and perennials. He knocked down a huge portion of the rock wall and I lost 4 rosebushes and other plants. Thankfully my daughter wasn't in the car at the time. I made him pay for the plants and they broke up not long after:)

In the end it seems , all's good . You got your cat home , you didn't get hurt , guy no doubt will learn a lesson about drinking and driving and he didn't kill anyone ! So good comes out of a bad situation . The cosmos has you covered !

Just read this - what a mess, so sorry for your ordeal! Most plants can be replaced, but I too would have been worried about the cats, glad they came home. The fool driver, sounds like he is illegal, deserves whatever he gets. He should have been ultra careful being here, stayed under the radar. Lucky he didnt run into another car on the highway and kill someone. I'll bet your daylilies come back - maybe he didnt destroy the roots and you will see green leaves showing when it warms up. See if you can get someone like Oshan to check your foundation - it could have cracked it or loosened wall structure. Hope damage is minimal..........

Julia, thank you. My poor cat did show up, but has decided to be a house cat and drive us crazy.she has gone outside just twice since she came back. Obviously was traumatized, she fusses at us constantly. She wants food, but does not look in her dish, so you have to show her. Just wants attention, but she is getting better the last couple of days.

Judith, it has been so wet here, that when the driver tried to get away, his tires spun about 8" down or more in maybe a 2' x 3 area. I pack my daylilies, so I am not positive what he took out right now, and might be that part of each will come back. There is a large clump of Butterfly Moon there, 3 small ones new last year that with tags missing I can't remember just which is which. Landscaper came and gave a quote of $3,000. That seems really high to me. The pond has to be refuge and new liner, some repair to around it, some pavers replaced and put back down, and new arbor put up. Got the foundation checked and it is not cracked, but to repair the siding the deck will need to be pulled out to get to it to repair, then the deck pushed back into place. Landscapers are not sure their equipment will handle the deck. The siding is no big deal, we have a nephew who would do it, and already have leftover siding, but the deck might end up being a problem.just hope the guy's insurance pays. I am in a hurry to get the estimates to him, but my husband keeps wanting to wait.
