I had heard that the Miele dishwashers have lost their great standing in the past few years. I have a LG dishwasher that I purchased a few years ago when I had my kitchen renovation as the LG had great reviews. The LG is so quiet, no broken tines. I also have an LG washer and dryer, an LG Smart TV, and a LG free standing air conditioner; they all function great, no issues❣️

Miele is now a disaster, from build quality to customer service quality.

Am considering ordering a Miele bacause I have been waiting almost a year for the Bosch I want. And I can get a Miele in less than a month

But these comments about the tines breaking worry me.

Do any of you with broken ones have the G73 , G75 or G79 series dishwashers?

This is disappointing to see. I was the third owner of a 90’s Miele and never considered this rack to be something that needed delicate treatment.

I did learn to be very careful with the bottom rack tines on my Bosch after I quickly broke two off, but that’s another story.

Yes, many of the tines are broken on my tray. It makes me crazy and I have tried to find where to buy a replacement tray and can't find one. Has anyone else been able to replace their tray?

Miele can sell you a replacement pretty pricey. we try to lift our silver straight up and put our table knives in with the back down the people at Miele told me that maybe it was rust…it is an all plastic tray!

I have Futura - G6305 from 2015. For those here who bought the replacement cutlery trays, are those tines holding up? We are losing two more tines and I would like to see if the dishwasher can make it another 5 years before replacing. Hopefully a better brand will emerge by then.

Yes! I had the same problem on a top of the line Miele and I thought it was just my kids being rough ugh!

Same problem as eveveryone else…i am very gentle with my appliances and particular about loading and unloading. I had ”wiggly” tines early on and those are the ones that have broken 3 years later. i should have complained immediately, but didn’t expect to have a problem with such a nice appliance.

I have G6305 and found this thread while looking for a replacement tray. My mom and I have used Miele dishwashers for at least 17 years and I've never had the problems I've had with this model. Also the bottom panel that sits below the door fell off and won't snap back in. I need to find a replacement if it's available. I have to call customer service because I can't see any of these as spare parts on their website.

I have had this problem, too ... lots of broken tines, strangely only on the right side. We didn't treat it harshly. I have the G-5705 (Futura Dimension Plus) and finally found a replacement on the Miele website (https://www4.miele.de/msd/MSD#/device/40009/etd/1822314532401) for $80 (just the right rack replacement, the whole utensil tray is ~$220). To find the part for your dishwasher, go to: https://www.mieleusa.com/c/parts-and-accessories-24.htm, click on "All Miele Original Spare Parts", and enter your model name and/or number (found on the side of the dishwasher door) into search box the next screen, select the appropriate name and hit return. This takes you to all the spare parts for your dishwasher. The utensil tray will be one of the selections. Not too pleased about the price or lack of durability, but what are you gonna do. Couldn't find the part anywhere else.

my dishwasher is 7 yeras old and i too am having the same issues even though im the only one using it and carefully at that .Had Miele in the past with no issues

We have the same issue with a Miele unit which is slightly more than 1 year old. Our new house included the Meiele dishwasher. We've owned Miele vacuums for years but this is our first Miele dishwasher (we had several Bosch dishwashers in prior homes and never had issues). Broken tines on the right side. Customer service was objectively horrible - the rep first informed me that the warranty starts when the builder purchased the unit and then argued that the issue was cosmetic. Not sure that it will be worth the aggravation to continue this fight (I mean, it's only a cosmetic issue, right?) but I do know that I won't be buying any Miele products going forward.

I would ask to speak to a supervisor if they told you it is cosmetic.

Ha! You mean I should have gone 'full Karen' (Ken?) on the guy? Funny, I told him that he and I weren't making much headway and asked if there someone else I could speak to. "No" Can someone get back to me? "Sure" No one ever did. At the end of the day there's not much that will happen. I won't ever buy another Miele product. Maybe this thread will sway someone away from Miele but bad customer service won't destroy the brand. Crappy products will and it sounds like Miele is going down that path...

Disappointing. The tines are required to hold the cutlery up, without them it's just a flat tray. How someone could call them cosmetic is beyond me, awful customer service.

Same problem here with our 5 yo Miele dishwasher., though only one tine is broken and one is bent. I am very careful when loading/unloading. Our last Miele was 15 yo and never had any problems.

I donno what a full Karen or Ken is, but if someone rants like a Shaniqua or Tyrone, something gets done

20 years (2 houses) and i never had a problem.. Loading issue is my guess. I would assume that big items are getting shoved in and hitting something when being pushed back in

Got 22 years out of my first one.

It takes a bunch of pressure to break a tine. I just tried by putting some pressure on two of them.

Its going to take way more than you are ever going to put on them loading and unles you are puposefully putting loads of pressure on this.

We have experienced this same issue. We bought our Miele dishwasher (Model G 5705 SCi) in 2012. We started losing tines on the right side cutlery tray in 2014 and did receive a warranty replacement free of charge by calling Miele. We started losing tines on the replacement (i.e., right side) cutlery tray again after several years and, currently, 19 tines are broken or missing. Interestingly, no tine has ever broken on the left side. Here is my theory as to why: we always load our spoons on the right side, and our forks and knives on the left side. We load the cutlery in the manner recommended by Miele (i.e. spoon handles between the tines; fork heads between the tines). While I am careful to lift the spoons out of the tray without putting pressure on the tines (i.e., by not grabbing the spoons by or near the heads and then squeezing), I suspect others in my household are not as careful. Grabbing multiple forks and knives does not exert the same pressure on the tines because you are grabbing them by the straight handles, which does not cause the forks or knives to splay. Grabbing multiple spoons near the heads and squeezing causes them to splay. I tried ordering a replacement part from Miele during the height of the pandemic, but could not get a human on the phone. I am glad I saw this thread and have found the replacement part online, and will soon order the replacement. I will not try to claim under warranty this time, due to the age of our dishwasher.

Rolev, while your theory may be correct, it emphasizes, even more, the poor design and build quality of the tray. Consumer items should be built for simple humans, applying reasonable care. The level of care you're describing is unreasonable, especially for an expensive product that claims to be of superior quality and robust durability. Unfortunately, the legacy of Miele's exceptional quality has vanished into thin air. Plus, the customer support is horrendous. I have purchased Miele products for years and will not do so again.

Knives, being the longest and put into the DW handles-outward, will, if the handles are pressed together, particularly across a group of knives, exert significant leverage against the tines. Where we put knives is the only area that our ca. 2010 Optima has had a failure, and I am certain that it happened when well meaning guests were here helping.

This is not to excuse Miele, who continued to produce short lifetime but expensive intake hoses, and who have, for reasons I can only guess at, alienated all local (to me) appliance repair businesses such that they refuse to work on Miele products.

Same problem with broken tines on rear of left side where were we put soup spoons and then grab them as a group to put away. Bought the dishwasher in 2012. Went to Mieleusa.com and called for support. Was guided through website to find the correct item. Happy to pay approximately $85 for left side cutlery tray to extend the life of our dishwasher.

In answer to the OP, you're loading the cutlery backwards.

Had ours eight years. Never broken a single one. Nor our Meile dishwasher prior to this one! No Meile video or mannual shows you to load cutlery as you've shown in your photos?

Same here. We have a G5705SCI. I complained to Miele but they did not care. Now there are 2 spikes from the middle tray gone as well. They rusted and finally broke. Just checked the Miele website and those parts for the middle tray are not offered. Honestly I would not care about the cutlery tray unless you see rust. If you replace it the same issue will happen again. We are buying Miele for 30 years and noticed how the quality is dropping. Don’t think I will be spending money on Miele in the future. What a shame to see such brand going downhill…

We have a G 6305 SCU. Not only are the tines breaking but there is rust and corrosion on the back of the tray. I have owned this unit for 6 years and am very careful, the rest of the machine is immaculate. Customer service confirms that this area shouldn't be rusting (not a wear and tear area) but since I am not under warranty there is nothing they can do except sell me a new one. Isn't this a manufacturing issue and should be replaced for free?? When I ask to speak with a manager I am told there is no escalation process. I am very disappointed. I have owned many Miele products over the years and have never had these issues.

I'm searching for a new dishwasher (mine is still working but I like to have an idea what to buy before the 12 year old dishwasher dies) and I was looking at the miele g 7156 scvi sf but was taken aback by the silverware in the top layer and no baskets. Isn't this annoying to have to put in and pull each piece separately or am I overthinking it??

It is not annoying, it's very efficient. You are overthinking it! (BTW, I'm one of the people who had had Mieles with top racks in several homes, over 20 years, never have I had the problem that others report.)

Amy Kaminski, some models with a 3rd/upper rack for silverware also have traditional baskets in the lower rack, providing for both loading methods being available to the user. The baskets can be removed for more space in the lower rack. The upper silverware rack on some models can be removed for more vertical space when needed for tall items in the 2nd/middle rack.

In my view, the added time spent aligning silverware with the tines before cleaning is saved in collecting the clean like-type silverware all at once and placing the set back into its drawer storage. Do NOT exert force against the tines when gathering the clean silverware.

I inly have an issue with the tines in one area of the left side of the cutlery tray …and only in the first 10 or so tines. I noticed from day 1 that they seemed a bit wiggley, but didnt think too much about it. After about 3 years I lost 2 tines. i avoid this area now. I have always been gentle in my removals. I do group similar silverware together. My neighbor is on her 3rd Miele and says she, too, has problems, but this is the only Miele she has had this issue with (exact same model as mine). I’m guessing they have some quality control issues, But what is infuriating is that they will act like tou are the first one to ever tell them this if you contact them. For that reason, I don’t plan to buy another Miele when this one breaks down.

That was my experience as well. When I called they said they never have heard of this problem. I hope they read this thread.

Same problem here, rusting and tines breaking after not even two years of use on a top of the line Miele. For that reason we are switching to Gaggenau for the new build now. Hope this one doesn’t disappoint.

Our Miele with many broken tines, only in one section, is from 2015 so very curious about Gaggenau. Please report back on how you like it as we will be in the market sooner than we thought when we bought this Miele.

Same problem. Three-year-old dishwasher. They won’t replace the cutlery slider. Have to spend out nearly £100 instead for a part that they probably buy in from China for a 20th of that price.

Also, had a fault with Miele oven just out of warranty, which they refused to cover.

Looks like the quality of some of the products is not as good as it once was and their customer service is extremely disappointing. And, their spare parts are outrageously overpriced.

I wouldn’t recommend Miele to other people. Am very happy with the Neff and Siemens appliances I have.

What fault did they refuse to cover under warranty?

Assume you were referring to the oven fault. Pyrolitic cleaning wasn’t working because the other door lock was faulty.

I have the same issue, my trays are even breaking up, crumpling in fact. About 5 years old. A new set will cost us about 288 Euro.

I have a Bosch with top silverware tray. No broken tines! I like my Bosch a lot.

After decades of Mieles since we grew up always w Mieles, unfortunately I chose now Bosch and I couldn’t be happier, 3 years later looks new, nothing broken works and dries phenomenal. Not looking back. And we mow have only Gaggenau appliances, no more Miele. Miele USED to be the best brand and then I don’t know what happened but it is not anymore. Love all my Gaggenau appliances and Gaggenau gives you 5 year full warranty. Combined of Bosch and Gaggenau works perfect for us.

We have a 10 year old miele with no broken tines. I would suspect that those who are having problems are not following instructions and loading the tray incorrectly. The handle of the spoons should be in the tine, not the rounded part. If you look at all of Mieles insructions this is how they load the spoons. If the rounded part of the spoon is in that area it is probably pretty tight within the tines and when water spray hits the rounded part of the spoon it moves the spoon and puts stress on the tines. It is not a problem with knives because the knives are relatively straignt so it has some wiggle space without stressing the tine, and forks are not an issue because any water would flow through the fork vs the spoon which acts like a sail.

Malba2366: Sorry but your suspicion is incorrect. We load it with handles in the tines and tines started breaking after 2nd week. I think certain model/years were defective. The plastic on ours is hyper brittle and the tines crack with minimal pressure. I am sure other tray models/years are fine as this would be a major problem if it was on all models. These things happen, but the issue is Miele refusing to acknowledge and send updated parts for free. These trays should have been recalled.

Tines where knives are, are also broken🙄 Makes no difference what the actual item is.

As well as the broken tines the rust is now so bad on the top and bottom racks.

Will never buy Miele again.

My 2 Bosch are phenomenal and I could not be happier, NOTHING breaks, no tines, no rust either, also extremely happy with my Gaggenau appliances. I had an issue with the Steam Oven (leaking) and they delivered a new one within a week, very impressed with Gaggenau so far, highly recommend.
