Mirror in this space?

Hey houzzers I have a mirror the same size as the painting in my dining room. How do you think it would look on the wall left of the picture? Do I need anything in there? I am more of a minimalist so don’t care for a lot of stuff everywhere

I agree, no. Is the corner cabinet built-in? If not, have you tried it in the other corner instead of between the windows? If not, give it a go...

Yes it is a built in

I’m a huge fan of using mirrors to open up a space and reflect light. In your case, I’d add it to reflect the light from the window across from that wall.

    Here is the opposite wall

Not sure if I see a mirror in that space. I see more art by your fireplace, have you tried other art there?

The art by the fireplace has places in my living room where it will be hung. I am waiting on furniture before I hang it.

I would add draperies to your windows first and then decide what the room needs. I don't think the corner cupboard adds anything to your more formal room ambiance and I would remove it.

I think a gold framed mirror in a vertical orientation would be very nice.

On the wall next to the picture frame I would add a small console table and a lamp, mirror or art work, the one you have on wall is too dark- perhaps something more colourful in its place would be better.

Personally, I'm not fond of mirrors in dining rooms. I think art looks very nice there and I agree that adding draperies would be lovely in that room.

Momof5 the space is too tight to add a table. We use the table quite often extended to seat 10

Beverly is right about drapes. They will add some softness to the room without adding clutter.

No to the mirror. I don't want to look at myself while I'm eating.

I know there are many people who are opposed to mirrors in a dining room. However, one would have to be sitting on a ladder to see themselves while seated and eating ( unless the mirror is an extra large wall size or floor mirror. I think a mirror can be quite lovely in a formal dining room. It is an opportunity to reflect part or all of a beautiful chandelier. It would bring some light and sparkle into that corner of your room by reflecting light from your windows. Since you have one, it certainly be worth a try to see how you like it, typeandrun. It just needs to be hung vertically because of the horizontal art on the adjacent wall. If you don’t care for it , THEN you could always hang some art instead.

Meant to say, even though you did not ask, absolutely , some drapes would bring polish and softness to your room.

Maybe a mirror that's not really a useful mirror, but more of a texture piece? Like a mirror with a lot of thick slats in front, like quasi-knick-knack shelving, with the slats painted a color that pops a little bit and ties in with the drapes.

@typeandrun then I would just put a tall floor plant on corner. Let us know what you do :)

A corner china cabinet, especially one with an arched-top glass door like the one seen here, is a classic element of a traditional, formal dining room, @BeverlyFLADeziner. To remove it like you suggest would make the room less formal, not more.

@typeandrun: That’s a great cabinet! Is the inside painted white, too? If so, I’d think about painting it a contrasting color and adding lighting if it isn’t there already.

Sammy the inside of the cabinet is painted BM quiet moments. The ceiling is also. The walls are BM bleeker beige. trim and cabinet are BM white dove. I am waiting on my husband to install LED lighting I am very happy how the colors work. Waiting on drapes until furniture for living room arrives eta May and I recover dining room chairs. These are the fabrics. Top is for just the arm chairs in dining room. The side chairs will be seaglass herringbone

    What about a clock?
    Banjo style?

Geez, I'd take the mirror over that clock. No clocks in dining rooms IMO.

Just select a mirror that adds sparkle instead of reflection.

By that I mean, the mirror is designed to add the sparkle to the room without actually providing a plain large mirror that would reflect a full person.

never put a mirror where people have to watch themselves eat. 0.o

what about this clock? Can anyone photoshop on my wall please?

Thoughts on this mirror? I know it is hung too low. In place of artwork?

That is a beautiful mirror - but not there. The mirror and framed art seem to be fighting for attention. I’m also Old School: mirrors look best when they serve a purpose such as reflecting a view (such as the outdoors) or hanging somewhere where people need to look at themselves (in a front hall way to check yourself before you leave or greet guests).

Yes I agree. The good news is I think I have a better spot for the mirror. I like the artwork I had there. I think I just need to change the matting and then I will be happy
