Spring is coming - the Red Winged Blackbirds are back (early) so within a few weeks or so the weather usually starts to become less wintery and more springy.

Do you have a female salamander laying eggs in your pond water or could it be a newt?

I hope it is a female and I think it is a salamander. The sad part is that between the fish and the frogs I never have any baby anything survive. One year a baby fish made it to inch size and then I had 2 bull frogs bigger than my hand move in and he was gone. Luckily I was able to net them out eventually. I like all littler frogs but hate bullfrogs. When I hear their singing I get out the net and transport them to the creek 3 miles down the road.

I love the sound of bull frogs singing, but you're right.....I've heard they eat everything in sight, even birds. Last year in the early spring I had a couple of them show up in my tiny stock tank pond. It concerned me. But fortunately, they didn't like it there and left....maybe to the nearby creek.
