Pool and landscaping dilemma

Hello - I've been dreaming of having an inground pool since buying my home 20 years ago. I'm finally ready and can afford to do good job.

Problem: where should it be located?

Off the back of our house we have beautiful covered porch with stairs leading down a brick staircase to bluestone patio. Right off of patio, lawn is small, misshapen and perched on pretty big slope. There is enough room to fit a small, kidney-type pool BUT ---

1). that shape isn't my preference as I enjoy doing laps

2) there are a lot of tall (40 foot+) on slope which would only allow for dappled sun to area

3) not a lot of room for any kind of deck surrounding pool

4) pool would sit pretty close to edge of slope - which looks down on a lot of homes on street below (privacy is so so).

Perk to placing pool in this location is it could be seen from kitchen windows, from living room, from porch and patio - pulling all of those places together as one cohesive outdoor area

OR we have very large, rectangular shaped side yard. Pool could be placed here - it would be well off street in front of house, and yard is very deep so slope at back not a problem. Privacy would be excellent. HOWEVER, this side yard can not be seen from any room in house - we don't even have windows on that side our home. If someone was on back porch or patio they would NOT see the pool. A person would need to walk beyond patio and then towards side of house to view this area. This location would lessen our ability to enjoy looking at it when not swimming, and could also be safety concern down the road (our kids are early 20's - hopefull no grandkids for at least 10 years).

What should we do?
