I say aligned with the cabinet edge. I would find any extra to be visually disturbing. Maybe if the corner was rounded rather than square it might be OK, but I think it looks better as below.

Another vote for lining up with the cabinets, not the counters.

I think you need to take it to the edge of the counter. It's meant to protect the wall. One thing you could do that would help visually is put a shelf the same color as your cabinets. If it is flush with your cabinets and runs along the distance of the counter top, it might be more balanced. I can't totally tell, but are your cabinets angled back?

I really appreciate the feedback. I could redesign cabinets - haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Due to conflicting advice, should I consider bringing cabinets to edge of counter? They would be uneven from other side of sink though. Thank you!

We did counter edge, but we also have a little shelf it runs up to rather than the ceiling. I think with a nice edge, lining up to the counter would be fine. With the cabinets looks incomplete to me.

I would not do the angled cabinets anywhere. I don’t think the uppers need to be symmetrical on each side of the window. If you want more symmetry use the same cabinets on right and left, but add an open shelving cabinet on the right to align with the counter.

Thanks, Kate. When you say open shelving, do you mean glass front? Where would you end the cabinets near peninsula? At counter edge ? How about the backsplash ? Thanks again to everyone for your help !

Upper cabinets, even when identically sized to a run of lower cabinets, will create a "where do I end" UNLESS they are between two walls.

The reason is your counter fabrication will extend an inch, or inch and a quarter beyond the lowers to protect the skin on the side of that last open lower. If this is something you can't deal with? You add that one inch or inch and a quarter to the upper run of cabinetry. No fabricator worth a dime, will let you leave that lower side cabinet unprotected by overhang.

That leads to THE END question, as old as tile and time.

In the endless debate, the ending is the counter edge. The exact same spot a lowly and ordinary riser would end. The tile splash is simply the grown up ,and sophisticated sister to the lowly riser. That you consider it art, does not change what it is, or its purpose - protect the drywall.

If your fabricator created your riser, and it stopped an inch short of your counter top?? You would ask, WTH happened here? Thus you tile to that highly visible edge. It's your house, you can end where you like, but if my tile guy did the :'short stop" he'd be back the next day to fix it, or fur would be flying.

Go to the counter edge, and when done? You can hang a very pretty little picture and that need NOT align perfectly with that tile edge in any way.

Back to that first example I mentioned? Please do not do this, to your bigger, stylish sister.

Thank you ! I’m my design there is 12 inches of overhang on the counter for seating, and the family room window to consider. Are you recommending I tile all the way to the edge of that overhang? And then how high up on the wall? Or, should I add extra upper cabinets?

Does your cabinet maker offer a bank of end shelves? If you feel the need to have something there, you can do that. We have a set of shelves at each end of the cabinet run in our kitchen and they become a nice way to display pretty items you want out of the way. One shelf holds our pens and various coupons.

You tile to the end of the counter edge just like Jan showed you. Wherever you end the tile on the one side (cabinet height or ceiling), you end it in the same place on the other.

Well I think you have you answer above re tile. My only thought would be why are only half of your cabinets each side of sink - 1/2 glass. My opinion only, but looks a little odd. I would do both doors glass or no doors glass.

I am so thankful for the help and input of all you talented folks! I’m really bad at this, so open to all comments and suggestions. I will strongly consider no glass and open shelves. Is another option to put a tall cabinet with maybe an appliance garage at that end, or would that look odd? Does the glass cabinet near stove look funny? Should I go no glass there too?

Hang something small and pretty, . If it makes you insane when done? Add a floating shelf, that ends exactly at that edge and the first if you feel a need for two,......sits right on that tile line top.

Know that while fewer inches? You have the exact same decision at the right side. So. I can't stop you , but I would NOT stop short of counter edgeon that side either.For me? Double the ugly.

The glass doors by the stove "look" fine, but if it were my kitchen, I would do the glass by the sink. And don't forget to put a light in each "glassed doored" cabinet.
