The only way to have that microwave look cooler is not to have it over the cooktop. Replace with a counter microwave or drawer microwave or one on a shelf. It looks in that photo like you have a counter MW already anyway? (the white appliance in the corner next to the toaster oven) Put a proper hood over the cooktop.

Is there a reason for 2 MWS at all. Is that range on an outside wall? Or is this a one storey house ? Maybe a bit more info. IMO OTR MWS are the worst both for venting and for use.

We have two MWs because the one over the stove died :) My dream was to have a pretty hood but I don't see how I can keep the cabinets and put a microwave somewhere else. I do have a double oven.

I think you'll have to get a unit that has no handle and sticks out the least from your 12 inch uppers. Something like this which is actually a convection oven as well.
