So I’m a new home owner and trying to revive my poor lawn out back, which I have 0 experience with. It was pretty nice when first moving in but has since been neglected and my son constantly drives his power wheels on it but that’s another issue lol.

I thought we had crabgrass and I recently threw some seed and soil down with the intentions of using a pre emergence in the next month or so. I figured maybe I was already too late in the season to do anything about it and thought why not throw down some seed to fill in the bare areas. Well I think instead of crabgrass it seems to look more like Bermudagras? which sounds like a pain to get rid of without using harsh chemicals (I have a 4 year old, a dog and a baby due in May so I’d like to avoid anything too harsh) or digging up the whole lawn, or solarizing (which I would rather avoid doing as it would be the whole entire back yard) recently we have been re landscaping and took out all the wood chips/ground cover under the play structure and it looks like roots from the Bermudagrass were there trying to poke their way through. We were going to rototill, lay down some soil and put new grass see there. I’m kind of at a loss of what to do at this point. How do I fix my poor grass and add new grass without being overtaken by Bermudagrass? Or do I just surrender and plant Bermudagrass everywhere?

I live near Sacramento Ca and it’s already in the high 60s low 70s everyday.
