Was going to ask about the yellow variegated one. Look like my Lauren. Lauren is in another family not trifasciata. Said to be in Sans. aubrytiana (Jaboa) but the facts are not clear.

I wanted to show you a curious little oddity. My S. cylindrica put out a reverted pup. It's tiny and in a 2" pot although it's 2 years old. I don't mind it at all because I'm a fan of all mini and/or variegated plants. Here it is nestled on the right of a K. gastonis-bonnieri:

I have had my eye on a few compact Sansevierias like S. rorida, S. 'Dwarf Mini', S. pinguicula variegata, and S. 'Super Dwarf Bocel'. There's a S. hahnii 'Gold' and a S. hahnii 'Streaker' that I would love to add to my collection. I also really love the slender look of S. trifasciata 'Bantel's Sensation' ... Waiting for my friend to give me a pup.

Did I just name 7 plants up there? Signing off before I get started on the haworthias and gasterias that go so well with these beauties. I love them all.

Marie, Did you remove the cylindrica pup at an early stage? I have seen some from stem cuttings that look similar but not to that extent. Showing it's juvenile leaves. Looks like some of the hybrid sans I have seen. No name crosses from open pollinated seeds.

No, I left it attached to mom for a very long time to give it a chance to grow and it just stayed that way ... Tiny and not growing but alive and with open, reverted leaves. I have to admit, I had never seen a reverted Sans before and just had to keep it.

Yeah, I saw that. Sansevieria cylindrica is now Dracaena angolensis. WHAT? Darn it, just when most of us just started getting the spelling of the name right! We will join the rebels and keep calling them Sansevierias. A flimsy Marginata is a Dracaena, for God's sake!

I saw info that there is a cross between the two. Dracaena x Sanseveria. I never saw a Dracaena flower. They do but not in the house plant arena. Maria maybe you have seen Dracaena in flower in your area? I would love to try to cross pollinate them myself.

Yes, they bloom about twice a year in a flush of white, yellow, pink flowers.

Stush, I actually have a Dracanea that flowered. It's a miniature and boy did it smell SWEET!! Wait, is the dracanea and corn plant the same thing?

Dracaena fragrans is know as Corn Plant. Related but I don't think the same to Sanseveria I know this is what is being said right now. Just like many Aloes are not Aloes anymore and Haworthia is changed into many new names. Same has to be done with Sanseveria.

Mike, did you noticed that the flowers look the same and smelled the same as Sanseveria??

The so-called Sans sambiranensis looks and acts like a dracaena, I don't see how the powers-that-be thought it should be classified as a sans. It won't propagate from leaf cuttings, they're too thin and frail. Flowers are red, a huge clue that it's not a sans.

Karen, what's your name on the sans in the top pic, clay pot. That crooked leaf looks like an H-13 I have that was called Screen Door by Norma Lewis 21 years ago, referencing an old door with a loose, wavy screen. She was selling bits and pieces of sans for The Huntington Botanic Garden in Calif after they had a big cull and repot session. I actually think any H-13 can develop crooked leaves.

Russ, Those powers to be just thru Sansevieria into dracaena now. I don't agree but nobody cares what I think. Do you have one of those sambiranensis?

Stush, it makes no sense to me either, they may have some flower parts that are the same but they're not even close to being the same plants.

I have sambiranensis from a collector in Warsaw, Poland many years ago. It's very slow so I've only been able to propagate it a few times over the years, but if you want to try it I'll see if I have an extra.

Mike, I think hahnii can't bloom due to being locked into a permanent juvenile state. Some futura also doesn't bloom some do.

I'm here, w/ a screwed up new name (don't know how that happened).

Russ, that 1st pic, also no ID. I bought 2 pots of it that were braided w/ a sprout or 2 coming up from the base & unbraided them. I think the crooked stem is from the stems having been braided for a while. They're REALLY slow growing, I'd thought I could use them to make new plants, but they're way too slow. Am actually thinking of combining them in one pot, 'cause why not? Don't know that I need 2 pots of that, losing patience w/ them I guess.

MMike, Hi, I'm fine thanks, hunkered down, office closed 3 weeks ago, along w/ NYC & NYS after Gov. closed the State except for essential businesses; waiting it out. Fortunately, am fairly healthy & pretty mobile. Warmer weather allows me to food shop by Bike so, I'm doing OK. Hope you & your Mom are doing OK, thought of you both in colder, shivery MASS.

Yes, I've seen the talk of name change for Sans, but I'm not changing my names either, esp since mine are mostly no name right now anyway. Ditto re: Aloes in recent times. IMO names really only matter for swaps / sales.

In the early 2000s, Hoya people went thru the name changing shenanigans, around the time I was helping introduce Norma to Hoyas. I went out to Burbank to meet her & attend a lovely Hoya Fest she had for about a dozen of us from Hoya forum. I think of Norma often, especially when looking at my Sans. Especially my newish S. Francisii that I learned of thru her.

Karen, your sans with the bent leaf has to be cylindrica, it's the only one I've ever seen braided. These are usually sold as rooted leaf cuttings braided together. They eventually produce new small plants but that can take months, and far longer if those are winter months.

On your surprise new name, same thing happened to me recently. When I hit send, someone else's 'handle' came up atop my post. I went to the top of the message and hit Edit and submitted again, and it posted correctly. Maybe Houzz is having problems. You might try Edit and resubmitting the post.

Karen, is it Norma Lewis you mentioned in Mike's message? I remember her fondly and often wondered if she is well, do you know? I have many sans from her from the late 90s.

Funny, I was thinking of Norma just yesterday wondering if shes doing okay. I heard a few years back somewhere that she is in a home but wish she had access to a computer internet.

Stush, Norma must be up there in years by now, it would be a shame if she was in a home. Did you know Hermine Stover, Norma's friend? She wrote a soft back book about sans decades ago and was a real hoot, very different with a fun and humorous personality. I have wondered where she has been also, maybe on forums other than here, like Facebook.

Pretty sure I found Norma's obituary... Norma L. Lewis passed 31 Oct 2019 at age 87. Also found a 2007 LA Times article on her and her sans collection when she was 75.

She was quite the fiesty lady, I suppose The Huntington got her collection, which is only fitting.

The Huntington also got sans pioneer Alice Waidhofer's collection in 1998 when she was retiring, she sent me big boxes of leftovers which started me to seriously collect sans.

Only saw what's here about Hermine Stover. I got a download copy of her book. Wish I had the actual book. Great read. She posted here for a short time when I first came on.
