Painting help please

I recently had my walls and frames on the art pieces painted and I’m not pleased with my choices. I picked agreeable gray and mineral gray from Sherwin Williams and thought I was being safe. I’m trying to reselect and don’t want to make another costly mistake.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Is a cooler gray the way to go? I’m leaning towards Network Gray, Online or African gray for the walls and either leaving the frames or perhaps gray screen?

I think this looks amazing. Fresh and bright and sophisticated. What don't you like about the colors?

IMO the color of the walls is fine. I would change the artwork frames to black, lower the artwork over the sofa, and change the rug. Your space is fabulous. These are just suggestions to make it even more fabulous. I absolutely love the artwork.

I don't know what you are talking about. That's a good looking room.

@IdaClaire thank you for the response! the wall by the couch looks a bit yellow. I don’t mind the color on the lower wall, I think it must have to do with way the light hits the higher wall.

@ilikefriday thank you for the response! What color would you suggest for the rug? The art can’t be lowered as it comes off about about 6 inches from the wall so unless the couch moved forward it’s as low as it can be. I had thought about black for the frame but was worried it would be too stark.

I would paint the frames black. Is the frame in the dining area black? It appears so on my screen. I would paint them both black. I would lower the artwork even if it protrudes from the wall. There is plenty of space in the room not to have the furniture hug the wall. I would replace the rug with a large zebra rug. I would also replace one of the lamps with a silver eyeball lamp and the other lamp with a tall lamp with a black shade. Do you have a coffee table?

@ilikefriday Thank you for the suggestions! Both of the frames are mineral gray, I wanted them to be consistent. I love the idea of a zebra rug!

Every room needs a touch of black, so that's the perfect place for it. Pull the sofa forward so the rug is under the front 1/3 of it and lower the art to 5-7" above it.

Something still bothers me. May be too many colors, blue and red and leopard...I would replace leopard. may be scale...

    Maybe substitute blue leopard...

Love the blue leopard! What color would you suggest for the walls? I’m thinking about SW African Grey on the large wall and a lighter shade on the surrounding walls. The agreeable grey is too beige for the art.

    Love your artwork!!

Wait until you find a rug to decide about the wall color. The background color of the rug or the painting would be where I'd go to find a wall color.

Yep the room needs a different rug that complements the art and doesn't compete with it. I lowered the art over the sofa.

    Charcoal for the frames.

Pull all the furnishings away from the walls and onto the rug.

I would move all the furniture away from the wall...toward the center.... as is ...it feels more like an art gallery than an inviting interactive living space...the interesting frame color lives up to the uniqueness and grandeur of the art...black would compete and separate ...in a way....

For function the chairs would be very inviting if they were one at each side of the couch...and the long bench would be divine at the end of the rug...with the art in full view....but it looks a little long...placing the rug against the wall under the art..would create a “cozier feeling as well

This might also be the perfect setting to do a subtle color change at the top of the room ...sort of below the bottom of the windows...leaving the rest as is

@btydrvn Thank you for all the comments! The picture is deceiving. I used the .5 lens on my iPhone to fit that part of the room in to show all the walls. Do you think going lighter on the frame would be better? If the room were larger I love the arrangement you suggested but it wouldn’t fit. The current rug is 8x10. The color I picked for the walls was Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray and I think it’s too graige. I need a cooler gray. Should I paint the wall behind the art a darker cooler shade of gray and the surrounding walls a couple shades lighter?

This picture gives a better idea of size.

I rather like your current rug. It grounds the space below without detracting from the wonderful painting. You could always play with layering a smaller rug on top of it, such as a zebra print like Friday suggested.

So you need a 9x12 rug to get all the legs of the furniture on the area rug

@BeverleyFLADeziner I agree! I realized that. Once I got the current rug in place, I just haven’t ordered a replacement yet. Should I order the larger of the Blue or as so many have suggested change it? I don’t want something busy. What color would you suggest for the walks?

This photo should give a better idea of scale. What is everyone’s thoughts about a darker paint for the high wall with a few shades lighter on the surrounding walls?

I agree your room is stunning.

You could try swapping out your golden pillows for ones that match the wall colour. I think this would help tie it altogether?

It certainly would be worth a try vs repainting.

I also think you could use much larger lamps.

Thank you to everyone for their time and suggestions! The painters are coming back on Monday. I have it narrowed down to Sherwin Williams Reflection, Passive or Network Gray. I think I’ll change the leopard print pillows and throws out for something black and white. I think floor lamps would be great and a larger rug!

Which color do I go with? What do you guys think?

Just wanted to chime in on changing the rug being a good idea. I think a subtle pattern with blue looks better than the solid.
