Well, not good news. Opechee Garden Club has canceled their 2020 Lakes Region NH garden tour. Portsmouth Pocket Garden Tour was rescheduled but now I don't remember if it was August or September. Fingers crossed that New England Open Garden Days will still be held. If you like state fairs, pay attention to their schedules. Lancaster NH has already canceled theirs (Labor Day weekend).

I think that until there is a vaccine we are unlikely to see many purely for pleasure group activities available. And I think that homeowners are likely to hesitate to want to have a lot of unfamiliar folks wandering around the property. So I am not anticipating any of these this season, and I wouldn’t go if available unless I can be certain to have some type of immunity, either from having had COVID 19 or a reliable vaccine. I and many other active gardeners are all in a high risk group due to age or other underlying conditions. While my only contact with others has been from a greater than 6’ distance for the last 6 weeks, not everyone is willing or able to take that care and I have no wish to add to the burden of medical workers!

My local fair has been canceled for the first time ever.

The Boothbay Harbor Home and Garden Tour, usually 3rd week of July, has been canceled, as well.

In case you're interested in future years, it's usually very good, and the emphasis is as much home as garden. You could visit the Botanical Gardens, as well, during your visit.

I originally posted before the extent of the pandemic was really felt. I was hoping things would open up by mid or late summer but, agreed, this year is too risky for everyone. Common Ground Fair which is usually third week in September has also been cancelled but may zoom some of their workshops.

After reading this, I was wondering what virtual garden tours had been created as an alternative. Some of the local house museums have been putting up special pandemic webpages. So this might be considered the Garden Conservancy's version of those.
