Can established citrus in a pot tolerate cold winds?

So we all know winter wind and sun is usually damaging to broadleaf evergreens. I put my 2 citrus outdoors 2 days ago because it was close to 70 degrees. Tonight It is supposed to go down a low of 40 and some winds including gusts as high as 21mph. Is that going to kill it? I’m pretty sure my citrus are hydrated. They have been in the pot for 3.5 years. The citrus are at my moms house and I can’t go back there until tomorrow so I’m a little worried. Also my citrus are satsuma mandarin and yuzu which are one of the hardiest citrus.

Mine went out Monday and we did have a very windy day. They are fine so far. Fingers crossed that the weather stays warm.

Maybe a little stress to the leaves.

id assume that root temperature is far more crucial than air temp, when container growing..

the soil in the container will stay warmer than outside temperature. I have my fig tree out and the temperature swings 26f to 70f but the soil stays 45f.

Hydrated is good, of course, but I’d imagine the leaf cuticle is not as thick since they’ve been inside. You may have leaf loss, but I wouldn’t think they’d die. Let us know how they fare.

Tender citrus is not going to like 40s with wind very much. You may not see any difference, but they may shock a bit. 40s AND out of the wind, would be better. Also, 40s is a lot better than 30s though!

I agree with Dave, personal experience this week hahah... My tender blood orange tree new growth (about 2 weeks old) went flat... the older leaves looked fine... this was Wet, Windy, Cool weather of about 3-5C(40F). The Ponderosa lemon with minimal new growth (has a few flower buds forming) looked great.

No damage at all. I guess I underestimated them. I hope signs of damage don’t show up later. Theyre inside for now. Spring basically started for us already so I want them out for good already. sigh
