I would set up two separate seating areas. The area by the fire place would have comfy chairs, tables and lamps at appropriate heights for reading. The opposite end would be the TV area. That being said, to receive specific ideas, you should draw up a floor plan, with room dimensions, window sizes, and the size of any opening to other rooms. Love all of the windows

I might add an open bookcase perpendicular to the door wall on either side of the front door to act as defacto room dividers. Like these:

When guests open the door you want them to see your focal point fireplace and feel welcomed in to have a seat. At the other end there is a lot of traffic flow happening so you'll want to keep that area simple and easy to pass through. Were you planning on TV here? The baseboard outlets seem to be poorly located so you'll need extension cords and cord covers to get your lighting correctly placed. Since the boob light is in the center and you don't have an actual foyer, you can drop a nice chandelier over a round foyer table set under it to get that feeling.

Haha! Is this my house? I have the same living room. The narrow end with the staircase is a problem I haven’t solved. One thing I have found that really works is keeping lots of open space around the front door - don’t be tempted to put the back of a sofa or chair from one of the seating areas near there - flow is better!

We can come up with more realistic suggestions if you give us a to-scale drawing with fully labeled measurements.

No entry closet. Yes dining room to right of fireplace. Room by stairs is master.

Budget permitting, of course, I'd swap the location of the door and one of the windows closer to the stairs to create a separate foyer at the stair end of the room.

If you swap the door with the window closest to it (on that stairs side of the room) and removed the end window (located more closely across from the stairs), you could add a closet in the corner. Is there another room in the house that needs that extra window?

That radiator is going to make furniture placement in the fireplace side of this room awkward.

If moving the door is not in the budget, you could probably put a two seat sofa beside a narrow end table against the interior wall across from the door as your room divider, with another two seat sofa (or your chair(s)) at a right angle to it, and keep your pathway for getting to the doorway adjacent to the fireplace beside the radiator and in front of the fireplace.

The area on the opposite side of the door could be a separate seating/conversation area and/or a place for a piano or home office space.

I definitely will not be moving the front door. It would ruin the exterior facade of the house that has existed beautifully, and symmetrically, since 1926.

If you could move the radiator, you could place your seating along the exterior wall and have your walk path along the interior wall in both directions.

Between the door and the radiator, furniture placement is going to take some thought ... and smaller pieces may be needed given the long/narrow shape of the room.

Would you consider switching the front door with the windows that are more or less in front of the staircase? If so, the space between the door and the stairs would serve as a foyer, and the rest of the space would form a longer and larger living room.
