Which month start spring?

For container growers, it’s March, why? Because April is way too far, can’t wait, the tree’s needs to go outside now. Out they go, it’s high time! Fortunately citrus can handle low temps between 32 and 40. They don’t like it. There is more to it, you should worry about early bloom, which is very important. Early bloom is very important for successful fruit production. Too early? No fruit. A decision could be difficult to make at this time, experience comes into play.

I was lucky this winter to have several warm days to take some of my tree’s out for a few days at a time, bee’s were active. Bee,s are out at around 60 degrees at my place.

From my experience here April 15 tree’s are going in their summer garden spots, my last freeze date is April 19, so with the 10 day forecast I am good to go. This is for starters.........!

Right now they are dancing in heavy rain, it’s going to be a wet 7 days forecast. Got to hold them back, keep them in their pounce positions till April 15.

Spring started for me 1-1-20 when I put my tree outside for 25 of 31 days Then Feb-2020 they could be outside for 17 out of 29 days. so far this march they have only been inside for 1 night. It is going down to 31F tonight and 33F tomorrow night. My yard will not get frost until 29F. My last frost was around March, 7th-8th.

My spring started March 8th. Emptied the greenhouse, re-potted any that needed it and they are now showing new growth. Bees were showing up in the greenhouse before I even got them outside, (since I was opening the door everyday, the bees were really going crazy for the trees!). Already have tiny fruit forming.

Pluots, pears in full bloom, citrus halfway, everything healthy looking. My 500 gl tank is already filled with rainwater.

We reached 80 (feel) yesterday and it was quite balmy. I’m pretty sure the threat of frost has passed for me. Some of my trees started blooming in late January, but the blooms didn’t fully develop - I’m guessing due to cold and lack of light in the garage. The trees have been out for over a week now and the premature blooms have started opening. The bees were visiting yesterday, we’ll see if any fruit develops. Most of my other trees are right on schedule. My sanguinelli and variegated Valencia are blooming for the first time - will have to pull any fruit from the VV, but hoping to try a sanguinelli this year. No blooms on the other two bloods. Denise has already been hit hard by aphids in middle Georgia, but they haven’t reached me near Atlanta thus far. If all of my lemon trees manage to hold on to a few fruit each, I should have lemons coming out of my ears Lol.

I don't know exactly when spring gets here, but I'm hoping tomorrow, because the remaining pots go out. I held out the citrus with flowers and baby fruit since tonight was targeted for 34F and you know you can't really trust the weather forecast.

I had thought that our recent high winds might have taken care of the thinning of the Aprium..... but didn't. Rats! I hate to thin things... even baby plants in the veggie garden.... seems so wrong to waste potental food. But I know it needs to be done; so today I gritted my teeth and went out and took off about 1/3 of the baby fruits. (At least it is only one tree.)

I'm 100% citrus out since last week. I kept my Jaboticaba and Barbados cherry in for the time being, they seem happy under lights so why risk everything. This is very early for me last frost date here is April 15th. The Cirrus hasn't done anything except for one oddball, a cutting of a prague citsuma actually popped a bud within days of being outside and started growing new leaves after doing noting since I've had it, the others got some bud swell but that's about it which is fine....warmer days ahead. Working from home these days under quarantine. Stay safe all over.

Stay safe all over is right!

Mine have yet tpo go outside. It snowed yesterday and I have had the teens at night. I see no end to 30's night time highs so they are all still on the porch. The only thing I have to worry about now is that the porch warms up to almost hot so it's time not to forget to water of all the leaves will fall off. Many fruit ripening and trees seem to be dying to get outside. I pray for warmer days sooner than later. Seems I had a warmer winter than spring thus far. Take care everyone.
