Since you asked, I will be honest. I do not like the iron and would choose classic wood spindles.

I agree that the iron spindles are too ornate. A simple square wood spindle would be a better option, IMO.

The balusters he's recommending are too fussy/Spanish style for your home which is rather contemporary. What about a wood railing with cables instead? Like these:

Your house would look great with what we did with ours. Ours are metal balusters and an white oak rail, but I bet the rail would look great stained black at your house.

None of his offerings are suitable for your home.

Do you see how your current stairs have the spindles that are attached to a top and bottom rail, and only attached to the stairs in select points? All the metal rails in the example pictures (including the one above) have the spindles going into the stairs directly. It’s pretty time consuming and exacting work. If those rails are off even a little, the stairs won’t pass inspection. Inspectors pass a 4” ball between the rails, and it’s not supposed to go through at any point. Is this going to get/need to be permitted?

Get pictures from the installer, and also go see his work in person. I can’t imagine that many spindles (not pre-built in sections) in metal/iron could be that cheap installed individually on site. Something’s not quite matching... with what you think you’re getting vs the actual work he’s quoting.
I like what NYCish posted...but my quotes for a much (much!) smaller set of stairs ranged from at least double to triple. But they couldn’t do only two spindles -they would have had to have 3 per stair, to pass inspection.

Make sure you are very clear with what you want and clarify what the installer is quoting. He might have you focused on the style of spindles, but not on the style of install...or things have changed and you’re really lucky!

None of those. You don’t have any black in your house (other than the sad lonely light). Why would you introduce a new element? Agree it should be white, glass or cable.

I like the simplicity of what you have already. I’d put that money toward something else and just paint what you have, unless there’s a safety issue. If you’re going in a black and white direction in your house, paint the whole thing black, or just the banister, or just the railings.

Cable are not to code in many places but if you metal do a simple metal no curlicues or baskets . I can’t see how this will be done for 3K but I don’t know where you are. I think the glass one would be my choice the way your railings are now the glass would be the easiest.

The rail appears to be too low and the spacing between the balusters too far. Looks like a wriggler too.

I'd go with the simple black knuckles in photo #1. I don't think you need something ultra-modern in your house like glass or cable, just "clean-lines" modern like the knuckles.

I think the glass or cable wire styles wouldn't be good at all for children if you have a family style home in a family oriented neighborhood. I agree with some to go with simple wood spindles.

I think this was mentioned, but a visual always helps.

The glass looks very nice. If you have kids, I’m sure you could do a glass-alternative.
