Grow it from seed. You'll be very happy. Plant every seed because there is a big die off period up to 12 inches tall. Then the trees make it. They will grow close enough if not totally true to seed.

I can't buy anything but Nagami kumquat fruit. I would love to grow a Marumi from seed but that is impossible with out fruit. How did the fruit compare to your fukushu fruit.

Steve, I've never tasted a Fukushu or a Marumi.

Fukushu is a favorite kumquat of many people, they are a pleasant tasting fruit, Well worth growing.

Dave, 3 years ago when I got my mandarinquat tree, I read up on them a lot, and I did find website that said they came true from seed. I can't recall now which website it was, but after reading that I started a couple from seeds. My 2 seedlings did look mandarinquaty, before they died just this last December. I like the taste too.

Well, I don't know if this will help, but I found this in my notes.

Calamondin (which is a kumquat x orange hybrid) produces only 7% zygotic seed, which means that the other 93% will be exact genetic clones of the fruit parent.

Satsuma mandarin produces about 90% nucellar seed, so usually grows true from seed.

Mandarinquat is a hybrid of Kumquat 'Meiwa' and Satsuma mandarin -- both of which are highly nucellar, but I'm not sure if that is a trait that is easily passed down to progeny. I'm hopeful anyway.
