We just put marinace verde on our cherry cabinets and oak floors and it looks GREAT! We were debating all sorts of greens. Verde peacock is another green that would look nice (but is less expensive). Soapstone in grey or green would look great, too.

The Ubatuba/Verde Peackock family is a good choice but many people don't like the green but do like the green they keep in their wallet with those colors. My personal favorite on cherry cabinets is New Venetian Gold (sometimes classified as a Santa Cecilia). This color can have multiple tones of cream and brown but there is also deep red/cherry dots that pulls it all together.

a lighter maple-like? If you want to go modern, a walnut-stain is a must-have

Our cupboards and floors are remaining the same color due to budget, if I could start over I love the Walnut stain idea!

Ksueker-Do you like granites with lots of movement & variation or do you prefer a static & consistent pattern?

@Stone Interiors: I do like some movement and variation, but don't want the pattern to overwhelm the kitchen or be too loud. Does that makes sense? I have seen a few slabs that have the side to side wave motion that are very beautiful. I have a hard time visualizing how it will all come together, would love your thoughts!

Ok here are two different color options....one is static & the other has movement.

1st- Sapphire Blue

This material does have a tight static pattern but features warm browns against a black base tone that will accent and tie in your wood tones. A benefit of the material is it lends itself well to layouts that require seams.

Consider Golden sun, that's what I used with natural maple cabs and pinkish tile:

2nd- Juparana Fantastico

This photo features Juparana Fantastico but there are others in the Juparana family that can be more brilliant or paler in tone. This material features golds, reds, grey, & black tones and does have a directional veining. This is a material you want to see first hand and discuss with your fabricator the option of a special layout to see if you can capture areas your prefer over others.

From the photo you supplied of your kitchen, I didn't see any other large elements of pattern aka tile backsplash or wallpaper; so I don't think either granite option would be too "loud" for your space. If anything, the granite will add more character to your space!
