Monstera Adansonii Help!!!

I bought a Monstera Adansonii last week. The plant has one long vine but it looks very distressed. One leaf has already fallen off (that leaf had white spots on it). There are other leaves with yellow edges & blackening on the tip (2nd picture). When I bought the plant it had one new leaf growth. But the leaf hasn’t unfurled or developed a bit in last 7/8days. Even now the new leaf has blackspots (3rd picture). This a long desired plant of mine and I am so worried about it. Should i repot it? Or i was thinking maybe take some cuttings to root. If I take cuttings from a distressed new plant would it work? Please suggest how can I help the plant. Thank you!

Hi plantohoic_101! I think it needs more humidity, but then again it looks like you have a thriving calathea in the corner of the first picture so I'm not so sure that's the problem. Is it next to a heating vent perhaps? I would recommend putting it on a humidity tray or getting a humidifier.

    I hope this helps!

Hi @damask_rose_5 thank you for the reply. Though I don’t think humidity is the issue. It has been raining a lot here. Also I keep e humidifier on nearby at night. Maybe the humidity issue was from the nursery? I got it around 10days ago. There no heating vent nearby either.

I think you might be right Plantaholic, quite often my plants show the signs improper care in nurseries weeksweeks after I bring them home. It looks like it's been overwatered so let it dry out a bit. Hope it's doing ok!

Hi plantohoic_101! I'm so sorry I haven't been able to get back to you, things have been kind of crazy here lately. I definitely second Osulala's advice, it's the nursery's fault not yours. With a little time in your care it should perk right up.

    Have a nice weekend,

Thank you @osulala & @daask_rose_5. A quick update, I was getting too concerned about the plants. So I took it out of the pot to check the roots. They look really healthy & in good condition. So I popped it back in the same pot, with a bit of root detangling and some new soil. Cut the plant short to propagate cutting and get rid of the yellow leaves. Fertilized it with a very diluted fertilizer.

Now hopefully it will bounce back soon 😀

I will keep you guys updated. Thank you so much.

    Hello @osulala & @damask_rose_zone9b

An update on my propagation, all of the cuttings has rooted perfectly. Just potted them up in soil yesterday. The mother plant is growing new leaf from the node. But the way it looks like the new growth is a really small leaf and has no fenestration. Any idea why is that? Before the cut all leaves had lots of holes in them. And the way it looked like even the propagated sections are growing small leaves without holes. Why is that? It gets enough light. My monstera deliciosa is doing fine at the same location. Have great fenestration on them.

    Thank you

Hi plantohoic_101! I'm so happy that your monstera adasoniis are doing good! I'm guessing that the plants will start getting holes on the next few leaves it produces. I think it's kind of like pothos; I cut a branch with big leaves and propagated it, but the new leaves came out small, then the leaves that came out a few weeks after those leaves grew bigger, then the new leaves that came out a month later were normal size again.

    Have a nice day,

Thank you, I hope you’re right. I was thinking the same but was not sure. And wondering if I cut them back too much 🤷🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️.

So far it looks good otherwise. Fingers crossed 🤞🏿

I agree totally with damask_rose! Philo's that hang do the same thing after propagating. Good to hear that it all worked out!

    @damask_rose_zone9b & @osulala

This is the new leaf 😐😐🤣🤣🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

Off topic can anyone tell me how can actually tag someone in the comment?

Hi plantohoic! Haha, hopefully your monstera will start producing bigger leaves soon. After I pruned my pothos one time, I got a new leaf that was the size of a quarter! Is tagging when you can click on someone's name in the comment? (Sorry, I'm a bit new to this.) If so, then I think you copy and paste the the person's name into the comment, like this: plantohoic_101.

    Have a nice day!
