Scary insane times

Are you all doing ok? Is your place of business open? So many of my friends are laid off right now.

I'm pretty much homebound…I fall in the high risk category because I have heart disease and severely scarred lungs from many bouts of pneumonia. Gardening keeps me sane in these insane times. How about you?

Be safe my friends.

I've been wondering about our Gardenweb FL friends as well. Also trying to stay at home and not go anywhere that's not essential. Luckily have enough food and supplies to last at least another week or more, but already thinking about ordering online and doing curbside pickup. There are many things we can get shipped now.

The worst of this surreal time for us is my 89 year old mom is in a nearby rehab skilled nursing facility and they just tested her last night because she had a fever, and now is in a single room waiting for the results. She hasn't any symptoms of COVID19, and was being treated for a UTI, but they are being extremely cautious to protect their patients and the staff as well. No visitors have been allowed since before she arrived there from the hospital last week and she is confused and scared - of course! She has both mobility and cognitive impairments 😢

next week we have to do our monthly grocery shopping. we’ll go at 8am when they open and the store will be its cleanest of any other time because they sanitize everything the night before. Gary will do the shopping since his risk is not as serious as mine. He will be wearing gloves and upon return home will wipe down everything. We also plan to buy a lot of stuff we need online.

This whole thing is so crazy scary.

I've never been so glad to be a gardener than I am now. My gardens have been my saving grace. I'm keeping busy and able to spend many hours outdoors, still eating fresh produce.

Have been ordering online as much as possible, but have had difficulty finding items and getting a delivery time.

We've been buying our groceries online through Walmart for curbside pickup. We’re very pleased with the process except that some of our items are out of stock sometimes. And get this. We have three grocery stores in our area and none of them have 5lb bags of plain white flour. Ditto for Amazon. I make all our bread and have plenty of whole wheat but getting low on white. We keep looking.

I'm trying to find a way to plant more edibles this year. That was my original plan, but people kept giving me flowers, and I couldn't say no. Plus, "regular" veggies won't grow here because of so little sun, but I haven't stopped trying. I've found some tropical veggies and edibles that do very well, mostly leafy veggies, but also some beans and root crops.
