Making cabinets fit!

Being totally new to remodeling I first decided to make my existing cabinets work with some alterations! After waiting 3 weeks for a cabinet estimate I started exploring new cabinets. After losing this time I was in a hurry and went to one of those stand alone cut rate places. It all seemed so easy. The cabinet installers could not fit my cabinets because they said the walls were not plumb. They cut into the drywall and then said I needed to get someone else to plane down the walls. By this time I was working with a general contractor and he said their solution would not work. If I get someone to plane down the walls will the doors work properly and the walls look okay?

Thank you for the prompt response! The cabinets are frameless melamine coated. Can you still cut them? This option was not offered by either the cabinet installer, the cabinet company or the General Contractor.

The cabinets should have been smaller, with fillers added. You’ve got to start over with the design, and fix a bunch of blunders.

Thank you! That is what the general contractor is suggesting but the installer claims this is done all the time & I am making a fuss over nothing! They did the measuring but state that the cabinet company does not pay them to look fort wall problems.

Like said above, wrong size cabinets. Unless you want to buy new ones, cut those down.

If I understand correctly, the installer measured, right. They're responsible to correct the problem. Don't pay them until fixed correctly.

Sounds like the installer really isn't qualified to read a tape measure, let alone install. Why send them to measure?

Walls are good, just like the walls in the past 1000 jobs I have installed.

Sadly, the installers were hired by the cabinet company prior to my getting the general contractor. The cabinet company required payment prior to anything being done or ordered. I wish I could name this company here! They are well known and advertise online constantly. They required me to have their handy man company do the measuring but put in the fine print "buyer is responsible for any measurements" given to them. Right now I am trying to get my kitchen finished. I plan on dealing with this company through reviews, cancelling the countertops ordered through them and maybe court!

“The cabinet company required payment prior to anything being done or ordered.”

That information would've sent me running for the hills...to find another cabinet source.

Cabinets to Ho and their ilk are not “reputable” just because they spend money on advertising online. That’s just one of the things that makes them suspect. The other is selling Chinese import cabinets. That’s proven to be a very unwise business decision since the tariffs ate into the profit margins. Solid Wood and Cliq both closed their doors. They won’t be the only ones.

Why can't you? They sound fishy if they require full payment upfront and then deliver subpar.

Thanks everyone! I ordered additional cabinets to hopefully fix the problem. Yes, this is Cabinets to Go! Again I am new to this and was in a hurry! Now I know how expensive not knowing what you are doing can cost in the end. This was only one of the problems that came up dealing with them! Listing the others would take too long. The general contractor will replace the larger cabinets and handle all other remodeling tasks from here on!
