I’m working on building a wood storm door for our entryway. The main door and casing is recessed into surrounding stonework. With the storm door installed, when I open the storm door the side closest to the hinges hits the surrounding stone arch. The door opens less than 90 degrees, I’d say.

I’m wondering if I use a wider hinge if it will push the edge of the door further out as it opens, giving me a little more clearance. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem?
