Great haul Steve. Not only are those great varieties but very impressive looking and well rooted plants. I’m so tempted to order from Hornbaker after seeing your plants but I just can’t. I removed over a hundred hosta’s from the garden last year and will probably have to remove a few more this year. It just doesn’t make sense for me to buy more.......but I know I will!

I may have just ordered Midnight Oil, Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, and Heatwave. And I could have ordered some gifts as well, as City Dog, Chorus Girl, May, and Smooth Sailing. Possibly.

Ordering hostas is addictive! I have been good (or bad) and haven't ordered or bought anything this year.

No room at the Inn or in the garden. Lol

My inn is full, too. I have slowed down my purchasing, but still buying more than killing off.

My inn is not only full but I’ve reduced the number of different hosta varieties in my garden from around 300 to 130 in that last two years. Adding new ones now requires taking an existing one out.....not easy! Putting mini’s in pots has helped appease my hosta habit though.

Speaking of mini’s, Mini Skirt sure looks nice!

I really like Wrinkle in Time and Mini Skirt - great growers for me. Emerald Ruff Cut is beautiful but problematic to grow. My Angel Falls keeps getting ripped leaves, but I still love it. It could be the dogs walking over it when pipping, but this is the 2nd year here.

Angel Falls is easily torn here also. And I’ve found Miniskirt to be the most vigorous mini I have. Love that one!

It's a noid from Home Depot I bought last year. Actually, the small print listed it as sieboldiana, lol. They had a cart full of them. I managed my impulses well enough to only buy one even though I already have Hanky Panky. When my Hanky Panky unfurls I'll compare it but I'm not sure anyone can tell the difference.

Li’l Smooch prompted me to place a hosta order. I ordered Lettuce Wrap and Wildest Dreams from Bob Solberg. While not Li’l Smooch, Lettuce Wrap is a nice looking yellow with red petioles extending into the leaf. Still want Li’l Smooch though.

I replaced Bridal Falls today (died from heave and cut worms this year, planted in fall 2019). Angel Falls suffered the same fate, but seems to have summoned one very immature leaf from a tiny new eye. And since I was ordering a Bridal Falls and was paying shipping already, I elected to buy Royal Charmer as well. You understand.

Makes sense to me. My first Angel Falls failed too, but I ordered a replacement that same year and planted it in a little more sun. Seems to be doing well there. Bridal Falls limped along until I moved it into more sun and now it looks great! After two blah years

With all this weather vortex I have been stashing all my hostas in safety as much as I can, will try to get pictures tomorrow.

Added a few new ones to the garden yesterday.

‘Wiggles and Squiggles’ which was the only one left and at $10 was a little expensive for the sad tiny plant. But my aunt has always called my cousin and I “Giggles and Squiggles,” so it had a special meaning to me.

‘Emerald Ruff Cut’ because I’m a sucker for a wavy leaf.

And 2 ‘Rainbow’s End’ because they’ve been on my bucket list and they were $6.98!!! For a gallon size plant at Home Depot yesterday! $6.98! I’m trying to figure out where can put more of them so I can go buy more. I already had to split and move hostas to fit the 7 new ones I’ve purchased this year. 😬

Our Home Depot has rows of plants, all labeled Hosta. Made it easy to be good.

I did pick up First Dance, Etched Glass, and Great Arrival at local nurseries. A replacement Praying Hands, which died and I never liked anyhow from a hostaphiles annual garage sale. I have all the other hostas of the year and my compleatest tendencies won. It's in an unobtrusive spot. I still haven't made my annual trip to In the Country, and the local club sale is in a couple weeks, so I'm sure more will jump into my arms.

I planted Last Dance a couple years ago and it has already gotten too big for its space, about 25% bigger than the mature Cathedral Windows beside it. So First Dance got a BIG space.

That's Amalia behind it. The only sign of CW is the one in a pot further down the front row. It was covering the pavers, had to be pruned and shared. I put in posts to save the hostas from the garden hose, ugly but effective.

I bought Emerald Ruff Cut from a hosta dealer twice, and it just faded away. Last year I bought one at Ace Hardware, and it is thriving. Good luck with yours, Sidney. We live in the same general area - I'm a little south of Omaha.

Yeah, most of Home Depot was like 3 types of hosta (all labeled hosta) in large buckets. One was labeled ‘guacamole’ and it obviously not a ‘Guacamole.’ The ‘Rainbow’s End’ was the only “fancy” hosta there. My other 6 were from local nurseries, but I haven’t seen ‘Rainbow’s End’ anywhere else yet, and such a good price!

I know others have had issues with Ruff Cut but I’m hoping for the best. It’s under my maple tree near the trunk and if it can survive the roots, I’ll be impressed. My grandma passed along her plant motto to me. “Live if you will, die if you must.” She doesn’t baby anything in her garden and she has an amazing garden full of perennials!

Great looking plants. I've been taking lots of pictures, but still disorganized.

ERC grew very well for me for 3 years. Last year one got way smaller with weird immature leaves that might have been my fault and passed away over the winter. This year my other one came up the same way but it could have been a rodent tunneling nearby. Perhaps this is one that likes/needs to be moved every few years.

I didn't show you pictures of any of those. Waiting for part 1 of an order from Naylor Creek. Part 2 came last week. I'm dreading what I find when I open the box that's been in transit over a week and during the hottest weekend of the year. I hope they kept it cool. Anyway, I really love Danubie Isla. Such a subtle pattern, and it looks just like the pics already.

Its a little more apparent in person, but you get the idea.

When you have to have the latest and greatest, you might want to start them out in pots for better control.

Got my order from Naylor Creek last Tuesday but had problems posting here. Some very nice sized Hosta in the box and even the new ones were OK. Excited about getting the last order into the ground before summer and finally getting the rain right now.

Some of above my great favorites. First love is too early for me and always gets trashed. I gotta decide if I better have it in pot because I can control it better.

I love First Dance but anything connected with Dancing queen is great.

UTOG, except Wu Lola which I do not have I got same year or two ago. Tokudamas do great for me as well. Heat wave got trashed by dogs this year.... Sign

Heat Wave came up short and small for me this year, its first spring. First Love is protected by the house so I'm hoping it does well for me there. With First Dance (planted next to One Last Dance - a reverse sport from DQ), Dancing Darling and Amalia, I have the 3 Dancing Queen sports to check on their character. I think DD can go to white/parchment so its in less sun. FD can go green so its in the most sun. My goal is to keep that nice yellow middle as long as possible. I'm excited about Lost in Paradise as I lost Game Boy (another reverse Liberty tetraploid) my first winter after planting it. And Georgia Sweetheart is in honor of my mother Georgia Sue who passed away this year. I feel like I'm starting to fine tune the collection with Hosta I like and have some meaning to me.

Krossa Regal, bought XL from New Hampshire hostas. It is simply too beautiful to plant in the ground.

Golden Meadows mellowed to green-centered over about 1 month, but still looks amazing with the puckering at the junction between the center and the margin.

No remorse here, 4 months later.

Yellow Polka Dot Bikini has changed colors several times and now looks like Striptease. Cool!

Cool as a Cucumber started out as a scrawny ugly-duckling, but I see that it will be beautiful over time.

Clear Fork River Valley. It is too hot here for most blue corrugated hostas, so I went with a good green. I like it!

Overall, I am quite happy with the spring additions. You're So Vein is underwhelming, but may be something next year. Niagara Falls is in the ground and growing well, as is Adorable.

Monster Ears seems to be strong plant. The leaves are super-thick.

Midnight Oil is a slug magnet. See the beautiful picture of this earlier in this thread as proof.

Danubie Isla, which I had been eyeing last year and had to buy this year after Steve's photos. Naylors closed 1 week after they sent me this wonderful plant.

Old Glory was purchased autumn 2019, but suffered...accidental avulsion of its only pip this spring when I sheltered all of the plants from an early spring hail storm. I had put it under the deck stairs, and knocked the pip off in the process. OG is such a vigorous grower; it recovered within a few weeks and is gorgeous now.

Everything looks great. I added Golden Meadows, Tangerine Tango and Etched Glass this year. got some others that I already had. Mine are doing ok--the recent hot dry weather doesn't help. Luckily, we got some rain this past weekend and there are cooler temps this week. I thought about getting some from LOG but the July 31st deadline passed and I forgot to send in my order so that's it for ordering from Jeff this year.

Spring order, did you say???? That is a long ways away ===>> like eight months from now!!! I still have little potted ones I have been nursing this summer that I have to get into the ground!!! Lol......you all get me laughing on this chilly day....... :-D

Undertheoaks, I saw that you mentioned Tokudama do well for you. Do you grow Tokudama Aureonebulosa and if so can you post some pics? I got a small one from Wade and Gatton when they sold out last year and I've been looking for another one to go with it since they grow very slowly. I wondered if it is worth the effort to locate one.

Miles, Tokudama aureonebulosa is a slow-medium grower for me in a large frost-resistant ceramic pot outside. I grow it in part sun, which may not be ideal. It is durable all season, a nice hosta with subtle variegation. This is from July 1. I have had it since 2017.

For last few years best deals were to be had in the fall... Not sure about this one.

For myself I am waiting on last order from Naylor and that is a wrap. One I am super excited is Frosted Raspberry, hopefully it lives up my expectations .

I got few nice orders thru the summer but it is getting to be very uncomfortably tight even with all pots I have spread thru the garden. Considering all seedlings that I want to keep it is not even funny.

Utog, that’s a large Tokudama. I can’t find a source to get another one since mine is small and they are slow growers. We will see about my Tangerine Tango, I planted it in our “best bed” where just about everything grows well. I am already Planning next spring since LOTG is closed for orders and Inwant some only Jeff has for example, Cat in a Hat.

Time for another confession. Today I ordered just a few more lovelies to brighten my summer days: Devil’s Advocate, Sunset Grooves, Diamond Lake, Honey Bear, and Glory Hallelujah.

Nice Danubie Isla. For whatever reason, my Naylor's Creek plants aren't increasing except for the little ones I put in pots. Guess I should throw some fertilizer in the hole when I plant them out in the yard. Honey Bear has such a great unique color it's hard to pass by. ST Devil is doing fine. More of a mini for me this year. Perhaps I should move it into the mini pot while its getting bigger.

Last order arrived today. Devil’s Advocate is going dormant, so not much to look at now. Pictures below are Diamond Lake (I had to), Glory Hallelujah (my new absolute favorite of this type), Sunset Grooves (dang, I buried the tag), and Honey Bear (worth it).

Well, this is the last hurrah of the buying season. It was a good year for online hosta shopping.
Today, I welcomed Autumn Frost and Winter Frost into my garden.

I really like Winter Frost. I got it at Solberg's place during his annual sale. I asked for it since Doug Beilstein is the breeder and I didn't see it. He had a couple left that weren't labelled. It didn't look that impressive when I got it in late 2018. Next spring I discovered it was like the blue Bridegroom.

I didn't get a good pic of it this year. Here it is today looking a little worse for wear in a tough year for Hosta growing. A good grower in my garden (under an Oak tree, lol).Bummed I didn't catch it earlier in the year. What was I thinking?
