Take off the shutters. Paint the clapboard a grey, white or fern green. Add landscaping.

I suggest painting the brick. Then paint the siding. Also leave the shutters and paint them black. Do the upper part of the house a different color than the siding below. Many houses are painted multiple colors. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for this house. Some rhododendrons in the front will eventually anchor the look of the home. Good luck.

Here are few landscaping ideas you can apply to create an eye-catching outdoor space-

1. Add mulch at area adjoining to the wall. Thereafter, plant shrubs or colorful flowers.

Everything is fairly pale. You need some contrast but not like black and white. Your local paint store will have color combination suggestions in folders for you to take home. The visual presentations will really help you. You have siding, shutters, brick and stucco to consider, but may end up with three colors.
Once the painting is done, you will be ready for landscaping. Reduce the giant shrub. Add some foundation plants (azaleas, some evergreens, some bulbs). If you know where the sewer and water lines are out front, add a tree or three for height (medium-height trees) which do well in your climate zone, planted far enough away that they will never touch the house or roof. If the tree is expected to reach a diameter of fifteen feet, plant the tree ten or fifteen feet from the house or ten feet from the driveway to plan for its full size at maturity.

Remove all shutters.

Don't paint brick.

Paint siding pale sage or an ivory that harmonizes with current bick and brownish roof.

Paint front door dark red.

Give that bush on the right a good haircut. It adds to the untidiness of the façade.

Put your budget into landscaping by extending deep, rounded bed from the front of the house which will include a flowering tree in front of the blank space on the left, dark red mulch like these houses and in similar palettes. The rounded front beds contrast with all the straight angles of the house and extend the houses gracefully.

No shutters IMO no painting the brick but these are a couple of ideas . I would check out MCM split levels on google. I love the design aesthetic a lot so these are ideas I like You could use a different wood with your brick.

First I would remove all shutters. Paint the area that is blue on the right and entire area above it dark grey. Paint blue area around picture window a grey that blends with brick. Paint windows and frame around white. Also white on facia.
Would also recommend removing the sidewalk before the landscaping begins. I'm assuming you have a driveway on the left and I would put in a new sidewalk that leads to drive in flagstone or pavers. Remove the storm door. Can't tell what your front door looks like, but you may want to replace and paint it a bright color maybe a teal or green to make it stand out.

If it's in your budget I would also expand the porch. It's way too narrow.

Change all the blue to white or black.

Paint the inset area by the window and front door white, but pick a lively colour for the door.

or muted green

or taupe

I would use the tone of your brick color on the siding. Can go darker or lighter than the brick.

I would keep only the shutters on the two most left windows. Paint them white.

All current plants are too close to the house. Plant farther out and make beds five feet deep. Something like this but I am not recommending hydrangeas.

I tried to show the colors but it is just an estimation.

I suggest asking on the Landscape Design Forum for recommendations. Even if you know what you want.

It isn't an ugly house at all.

I also lean towards not painting the brick. It would be helpful to have a closer-up photograph of the brick, taken when the sun is shining on, with a white sheet of paper in the photo for reference. Is it pale gray or beige? Is the roof brown?

Do all the windows have muntins or only the ones on the left?

Thanks everyone. The brick is a white/cream color. We have taken down the shutters on the far left two windows already and are working on getting the rest of them down. WE took out the shrub on the far right which was planned already. I like a sage for the color but my hubs is not digging the sage. So now we are working on finding something else. The biggest concern with gray is how it will look with the brown roof and tan soffit and facia.

I wouldn't go with a white or beige lighter than the brick. It will make your brick look grubby.

The challenge with the beige/brown/tan family of colors is that it may clash with your roof. We have a brown roof and when we painted our trim, our decorator said that browns can clash really badly if not carefully chosen. Your roof looks like a red-brown but colors on screen can look very different than in real life.

I would go with a dusty green. Here are some ideas

Your roof has a red tone to the brown, so if you don't like it (it is not the most neutral colour to work with), DO NOT paint the siding green. These two colours are compliments of each other and will accentuate each other. I also agree with all who counsel against painting the brick. It is a super neutral colour and works just fine with your roof. Paint the siding in the open gable a colour that matches the brick to unify the mass of the house. Use the colour of the roof as the trim colour for your window sashes and other accents. Spend the rest of your budget on landscaping including a landscape designer.

I'd pressure wash the house and sidewalk and paint the siding gray and the shutters black.
