Please help! I need chairs.

last modified: 6 years ago

Hi, I need help selecting chairs for both a kitchen table and a dining table. My goal is to buy kitchen chairs that coordinate with the dining chairs, so that when I move them to the dining table, they look like they belong there. The round kitchen table was purchased from Lulu and Georgia and the dining table was purchased from Restoration Hardware. I also need suggestions for counter stools that would coordinate with the kitchen set. I have been struggling with this design dilemma for months now. Thank you!

These are lovely pieces Sue! I love using Restoration Hardware in my designs. I could provide you some drawings if you show me photos of the rooms these will go in and your design style. I am guessing Traditional Luxe? If you don't know it... take this free quiz and let me know here... https://www.dsasociety.org/resources/interior-design-style-quiz/ Then I can recommend chairs and stools etc.

Can you post a photo of the room they will go in?

Hi, I just posted photos of the rooms. The kitchen is to the right of the dining room.

I am also looking for a brass/gold mid-century modern chandelier to hand over the dining table.

Here are some ideas. I would select one style chair. I only put multiple styles in the example so you could see what they look like.

The styles of the tables are so far apart that I am stumped. Both rooms seem to have gray walls. If I owned the dining table I would have it stained and varnished a medium wood tone to reduce the rustic vibe. I would look for less modern chairs than you have shown.... probably selecting medium-size chairs with a simple shape, solid-color upholstered seat and back, with plain legs. Look at Porter side chairs at Pottery Barn and Safavieh dining chairs on Overstock.com. They won’t “match” either table, but they will go well enough.

Your problem is that you bought wonderful pieces that in no way relate to each other. Any chance you could return the gold base tulip table for a plain white one? Then you could get any kind of white dining chairs--upholstered, painted, plastic, whatever--but with wood legs that matched the dining table wood finish. Hate to say this, but the dining table, wonderful though it is, clashes with your warm floors. Are either returnable for tables that would harmonize better? See warmer wood table below. You need to be going in a warmer direction.

I know. I want them. They go with any style and look comfortable. Photo was a piece about owners in Canada, so maybe they're from there.

I really like @ilikefriday's recommendations. A mix of traditional and mid-century modern is the look I was going for when I purchased the tables. I love both tables, so I do not want to return either one of them. Thanks for the recommendations everyone!

    @Sue

My dining table is not as cool as the RH one but it is similar. I have s-chairs with mine. The color of my table is darker but this will give you an idea of what it would look like. Please keep us posted with how the room turns out.

I love it! That is a really cool light!

That light came from my old home. I decided to turn three of the arms upside down and use it in this home. Thanks!

Put roman shades on the window doors in the living room, they will serve as a nice backdrop for the dining area.

I recommend streamlined chairs throughout, then you can add different accents here and there.

This creates a timeless, sophisticated look. Go bold with some walls and lighting in other areas.

I absolutely love how you are combining the looks and I think you have so many options.. restoration hardware has so many chair styles that in my opinion are meant to be mixed and matched... I have several chair styles below that could be combined and used with both tables.... it becomes a matter of the feel of the rooms you want... a few ideas..

you could use leather arm chairs at the head of the dining room table and combine that with wood with leather chairs and put the wood with leather chairs with the kitchen table... or you could add some gold metal chairs in the kitchen and use them in the dining room with leather chairs for the head of the table. you could do all wicker, in both rooms but use a different style of wicker chair for each room... same color, just different syle.
