Congratulations =). I have no idea what it looked Like last year, but this year it certainly looks like Eden. Roses on their first year throw blooms that may be very different to their final mature blooms.

Lesli, I agree your first pic (last year) doesn't make it stands out as Eden. There're many roses look like that. Especially because of the light in the first pic, the green leaves look matte, and Eden normally has shining leaves (see my last pic). Helen

I'm so glad to hear that your Eden is Eden! To be fair the picture you posted last year was even less Eden-like than this one, but this does go to show how different blooms on a baby rose look from mature blooms. :)

How thrilling!! One of mine produced some unusual blooms it's first year, too, and I didn't think it was Eden. It is a slow rose to get established, at least in cold zones, but so worth giving it time because those blooms are exquisite, as you know. Congratulations!

come in to her own. I can't wait to see what she does this year. I'm glad that your rose turned out to be Eden after all

I wish my Edens would take off like yours Helen. I've been contemplating digging them up, Im lucky if I get one or two blooms out of the 5 of them I have. Of course I said I will give them one more year... every year. :(

Lesli and Haku, I have 3 Eden on that privacy screen. They are grafted on Dr Huey and pretty much carefree. The only downside is they don’t repeat as much as other roses so I‘ll plant some other climbers between them to get more blooms. Helen

I know you arent supposed to cut climbers but Im thinking of cutting my eden back hard in hopes it will put out new growth that will create buds. Great idea to have another climber with it Helen.

I would not cut it back, most don't even get buds first year or two. I got the one bud last year that didnt even look like the eden as show above. just give your eden time, fertilize and mulch well.

haku, mine took 4 years to do anything at all. I'm so glad I didn't remove them. You want to encourage basal shoots, so as Lesli said, time, fertilizer and mulch should do the trick. A good layer of compost or aged manure might be all it needs. Once it gets started, you will be glad you babied it.

Helen, mine will never get as tall as yours, but I'm interested in how you prune it.

Also haku, your picture looks a little dark, is it getting enough sun? If it's because of trees, can you limb up your trees?

Lesli - I haven't posted any pictures of my Edens, tho they are all in full sun. Some gets morning sun and afternoon sun until about 3pm. Another gets all day sun.

Here are my Edens in 2017 when I bought them from the local nursery. Since I've never had the same flush of roses.

Flowers, I didn’t prune them much. I just let them grow and use them as a privacy screen. Helen

Thanks, Helen. I think I've asked you that before, come to think of it. I'm always curious about pruning climbers. I think many of them do just fine without our interference.

Sigh...Eden is one of my fav. Roses that I can not grow successfully. The downside is that It is a shrub in my garden with few flowers. The upside to it is that the leaves are beautiful. I lost mine two years ago due to flooding.

Helen: I had to wipe the drool of my face! Haha! your Eden is so beautiful. Magazine worthy. How old is it? wondering if I should try one, sounds like a lot of patience is needed to allow it to establish and bloom well.

Lala, warning: Eden only has 2 big flushes so you won't see that all the time. Mine are grafted on Dr Huey, and the pics were taken in their 5th year. I'm in zone 9 so there's no winter die back and most climbers get their full height and more. With grafted Eden, you can see the full look in 3rd year. If you have own root, then maybe longer. Helen
