Do you have to do a backsplash? nope. However, I like a tile. You'd want it to match the other backsplash.

Or, if it's separated a bit, you could do a diff design. I have a small, corner coffee bar and I did a black and white cement tile w/walnut shelves. For my regular backsplash on the perimeter, I'm doing a completely different tile.

this landing area is all by itself. you could do a diff tile here, and perhaps a white subway tile or something solid along the main backsplash

so here's a solid black on the main perimeter, but see across the way next to fridge space? you could easily do a patterned tile, or the same tile. you could also leave it as a painted wall. just depends on the design you like

I like the 2” bs, in the tray layout in the counter material, but it really depends on the size and layout of your space whether you will choose visual continuity or a visual break. Draw it out for us and we can give you better advice.
