Feature/Projector Wall

Hi all,

I would love some advice on my projector/living room wall. This room is where you enter the house - the entire room has been very baby proofed for the longest time, and I really want to inject some life into it.

I am thinking of building in a drop drown projector screen so that we can actually put some art work (or anything really!) on this wall, but not sure how I could add some visual interest to the room, while also drawing less attention to the speakers (not looking to change them - they are also recessed into the wall).

I was thinking of perhaps a paneled feature wall in a different color. Do you think that would work?

Any suggestions for the wall?

I think I'd get a custom media unit made with a large TV in the center vs. a drop down screen. You could design it so that there are cabinets/doors that hide the speakers with mesh or fabric panels so the sound can still come through. There are lots of A/V cabinetry contractors out there who specialize in this. See if you can find one in your area.

since the pull down screen will only be in use when the projector is on, you just want a regular wall with some decor while not in use? (is the baby changing station staying where it is? I have never seen one in a main living room next to the front door)

do you not have room elsewhere for the baby stuff? I'm not understanding this room.

what else do you need? a desk area? or maybe just a console on that wall w/art above it?

do you have a regular tv in here? do you want one on that wall? can you do a tv there ?

what's on the wall behind the sofa? maybe i'm missing something

The baby change station and gates will all be going :) We only have a projector - we use this as our main TV.

The TV/Projector does not go on during the day, so thats why I am thinking a dropdown screen might serve us better so we can decorate. Just looking for ideas for this wall (not a fan of built-ins).

ok. so the screen would be the same as your tv, but you want it rolled up when not in use?

so for that wall, do you have large art? maybe a console?

If you did something in a nice piece of wood, it would offset some of the grays and neutrals.

too bad that bottom speaker is where it is. I guess it limits to what you can place there. You can't move that?

    maybe something like this?

could you use a little desk area?

not necessarily this decor, but you get the idea. art, console, chairs,,

Imost screening rooms are installed in areas with very limited natural light ..are you going to have to darken all the surrounding living spaces ...in order to have the best experience?...

The same concern in a multi-purpose oversized space like this ...will the sound system be as effective?

@btydrvn we have the projector set up in our main living area, not a dedicated theater room. We only use it at night, so we dont need to worry about the lighting. We have speakers behind the sofa, so we have full surround (and a sub). Granted, its not optimal, but works more than fine for our needs.

@Beth H. : yes, correct. This is in lieu of a TV - we dont own a TV. I just hate that the wall looks so empty when not in use (which is most of the time). It makes our house look unfinished having a big empty wall.

I like your concept of a large piece of art, and perhaps some sort of console. Perhaps a low lying reclaimed wood shelf so it doesn't obscure the speaker.... that speaker does make things difficult. I dont need anything functional for the wall - purely decorative.

    Thanks!

We have a ton of natural light in our living room and our projector works great. In the evening it's not an issue and even during the day you can turn up the brightness and lower the shades and it's fine. Personally I'd never go back to a tv.

At any rate, that's not the question here. Yes, put some large art piece there, and perhaps a console table that is open and will allow the lower speaker to function. Can you get different covers for the speakers?

I’m in a similar situation and I think I’ll go for a nice frameless fixed projection screen that fills up the space.
