If it were me, I'd put base cabinets under the stairs with a nice countertop -- you would increase storage and have a nice folding space on the flat counter, I think that would be a much more efficient use of space. You could even have one of those pull-out hamper cabinets as part of the cabinetry, or large deep drawers across the bottom to put your laundry baskets in. You could also hang a hanging pole above the counter, spanning between the incline of the stairs and the opposite wall.

I have never had a laundry sink and have never missed one and now with the washers having a zillion cycles for everythig I will never have one.I would remove the sink, move the W/D down add a top over them forfolding and add some storage cabinets under the weird angled area.

I like the cabinets-under-stairs idea. Storage and folding area. We've always used our laundry room sinks - no one is allowed to clean a paintbrush in the kitchen sink. In our current house, the laundry room had that horrid hanging tub sink, except ours was the "upgraded" model because it had legs - it was still horrid. We replaced it with an inexpensive ($200?) laundry cabinet/sink/faucet all in one piece from Lowe's/Home Depot (don't remember which).

Is this room for laundry or entertaining? Embrace utilitarianism.

I do not see brooms/vacuum (just mop in the sink), pantry over flow or paper goods. But there are cleaning supplies. There are also miscellaneous laundry supplies: hangers, delicates mesh bags, clothes pins, laundry basket etc. that all need a place to stay until being used.

Forget using the under stairs alcove for a folding counter. No one wants to fold clothes in the corner of a cave. Mankind invented houses to get us out of caves.

I prefer closed door storage, neater and cleaner. Avoid wire shelves, they suck (stuff falls through and you can see every thing.

1) Hang the ironing board behind the door. Do this no matter what else you do. Where is the iron stored?

2) Move the stuff from inside/under the stairs and push your rolling hanging rack into that space for storage when not being used.

3) Pantry or broom closet style cabinet. Either in the alcove or next to the dryer. As many as fit and the door opening space will allow. And yes (before anyone mentions it), cut holes for any electric outlets.

4) Do your washer/dryer (W/D) have a stacking option? Get the hardware and stack them (embrace you height and get a step stool). Move them to the alcove side as far as the hoses/cords etc allow. Put a base cabinet between the sink and W/D with counter there (maybe new sink built into this). Wall cabinets above the sink and counter (use all the space to the ceiling) and also all the way over the W/D too, pantry/broom cabinets on the other side.

5) Hanging rod above above counter (if you can). Or those accordion pull out type racks (for delicates).

6) If no stacking option, get the under W/D drawers. They are expensive, but some people like them.

7) Or just build a counter over the W/D and be done.

8) Consider more lighting. Unless you are going for that nostalgic cave look.

YOU WILL NEVER REGRET PUTTING IN AS MUCH STORAGE AS YOU CAN.

Do NOT get rid of laundry sink, especially if you have little ones, or plan to have little ones, have pets, plan on doing any home reno's (lol), do any work on your car...list goes on and on and on. I think that is really terrible advice. You could update the sink into something nicer, maybe even farmhouse style, with storage underneath. I would maybe think of custom cabinet for under the stairs? Maybe just fresh paint in a light, neutral colour. Lots of whites on trend right now. I overall think your laundry room is lovely how it is, but I don't live there lol! Pinterest might be a good starting point for style ideas!

Yep, agreed re: laundry sink -- I use mine all the time for stuff having nothing to do with laundry. In addition to the cabinetry under the stairs suggestion, you could consider having the sink replaced with a cabinetry unit and drop-in sink and extend the countertop across the top of the front loaders with maybe a couple cabinets above. Something like this, would be nice even without the upper cabinets and use the same countertop/cabinets under the stairs:

Looks like the OP actively uses their work sink, so getting rid of it would probably be a bad move. But if the OP is inclined, a prettier work sink in cabinet would look nice.

Adding in cabinets/countertop under that angle like some folks are suggesting would work really well.

Maybe have a shelf or move those baskets to above the washer and dryer? Cabinets would be nice for storage space too.

Color... something light and cheerful. Like pale yellows, sky blues, and soft greens.

I would not give up the sink either. I have one in my laundry area that I use for much more than pre-treating clothes.

We are a working ranch, so we mix milk bottles for baby calves in this sink. Right off our mudroom.

do the washer/dryer fit under the stairs? then you could add a countertop where the w/d currently is, run it all the way to the precious utility sink (I can't live w/o one). I would think a ocuntertop is narrower than the w/d, so there'd be more room to maneuver in the space.
