Maybe some kind if chandelier or wood beams on the ceiling. Go for a modern or contempory look.

That fireplace would really annoy me! I would remove it entirely and have the tv there on a console.....it will also be at a more appropriate viewing angle. I agree about pulling furniture forward off the walls and also the coffee table. Cool color on the walls!

I would agree with @plf12652 on removing fireplace but if that isn't in the cards, I would remove the mantle and replace with a narrow wooden beam. And yes, the furniture should be pulled away from the wall. I hate to hear possibility of losing part of the closet. i'm wondering if you paint the door the same color as room if it would 'disappear'?

I think it deserves to be orphaned i often ignore corner FPs too That puts your TV way too high. I would just remove the sucker and make your life much simpler.

I’d put the tv in the corner where the 3 armed floor lamp is. I’d rotate the sofa/ lounger combo so the grayish sofa is facing the window and the brownish lounger is also...but away from the wall. The red chair would be near where the little 3 shelf unit is at an angle. If you are on sofa and lounger you can see fireplace and tv. Excuse the crude rendition. Put a Sofa table behind sofa.

Thanks for all the guidance. I actually just purchased this home so the furniture is not mine and I have a little more flexibility with new furniture. I think the consensus here is to remove it. I'll have to think about what the best options are. So far it looks like:

1. TV console

2. Table for entry

3. Built in Desk

If this is not a real fireplace with a chimney, it should be easy enough to remove it and repair the wall surface, painting it to match the front door and the door to the left. The floor may need to be patched or you can add an area of stone tile to cover the area. Then you can put a low console cabinet in that spot,with the tv standing on/mounted just over the console. I would consider changing the chartreuse wall color to a softer or lighter color...pumpkin, coral, light tan.

I would hate to see you lose the fireplace. Is your space large enough for two small couches to face each other perpendicular to the fireplace? Could you put the tv then on a stand opposite the fireplace? A small console table behind the couch could create an entryway space. Just an idea...

I would remove fireplace, create entry way by placing a console table behind couch facing long wall. I love the paint and lighting. Really, I do.

I would try to work with the fireplace before you think about removing it. It's not as simple as it seems and you'd also have an issue with trying to repair the flooring underneath. My thought was the same as windandsnow's. Add a sofa perpendicular to the fireplace with two chairs across from it near the window. Then put the t.v. above a narrow console on the wall where the sofa is now. When do you take possession of the house?
